Trump fires back: Megyn Kelly not a 'quality journalist'
The Hill ^ | August 25, 2015 | Jesse Byrnes

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump fired back at Fox News on Tuesday after the network's head and several of its star personalities criticized him in an ongoing feud over anchor Megyn Kelly.

The celebrity real estate tycoon said he "totally" disagreed with a statement from Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes that defended Kelly's "tough but fair" questioning of Trump at the GOP debate Aug. 6.

"I do not think Megyn Kelly is a quality journalist. I think her questioning of me, despite all of the polls saying I won the debate, was very unfair," Trump said in his statement, reiterating past criticisms of the host.

"Hopefully in the future I will be proven wrong and she will be able to elevate her standards to a level of professionalism that a network such as FOX deserves," Trump added in the statement.

A slew of Fox News hosts and personalities slammed Trump after he reignited a feud with the network and its star anchor Monday night, when Kelly returned to the airwaves following a 10-day vacation.

Trump shared several tweets critical of the female host, including one referring to her as a "bimbo."

That set off a series of social media responses from several of her colleagues, including Bret Baier, who told Trump to move on, and Sean Hannity, who told the businessman to "leave @megynkelly alone."

Ailes also issued a lengthy statement Tuesday defending Kelly from Trump's criticism:

“Donald Trump's surprise and unprovoked attack on Megyn Kelly during her show last night is as unacceptable as it is disturbing. Megyn Kelly represents the very best of American journalism and all of us at FOX News Channel reject the crude and irresponsible attempts to suggest otherwise.

"I could not be more proud of Megyn for her professionalism and class in the face of all of Mr. Trump’s verbal assaults. Her questioning of Mr. Trump at the debate was tough but fair, and I fully support her as she continues to ask the probing and challenging questions that all presidential candidates may find difficult to answer.

"Donald Trump rarely apologizes, although in this case, he should. We have never been deterred by politicians or anyone else attacking us for doing our job, much less allowed ourselves to be bullied by anyone and we’re certainly not going to start now. All of our journalists will continue to report in the fair and balanced way that has made FOX News Channel the number one news network in the industry.”

Despite doubling down again on his criticism of Kelly, Trump also suggested that he may be ready to move on from the public dispute, saying "more importantly" he was pleased to see several new polls showing him in the lead.

"I will be in Iowa tonight with my speech being broadcast live on CNN and other networks," Trump concluded. "My sole focus in running for the Presidency is to Make America Great Again!"

There maybe something beneath the surface like Roger Ailes promising that Megyn Kelly would come out after her vacation and say that she used faulty research for her first question and that was wrong.

But alas, Kelly came on last night oozing devotion to Dr. Ben Carson in a feature interview. Trump probably noticed there were no booking requests from the Kelly File either.

I have to say that she didn’t look rested or sun-kissed from a family vacation at the shore. She looked like she had been held in detention. Even though I like Dr. Carson, I can’t watch her after she showed her true face, which is blind ambition.

Who was the first person that Megyn Kelly interviewed right after the debate? IIRC it was Debbie Wasserman Shultz. Kelly served her a softball question “what did you think of the debate” and Wasserman immediately launches into “Republicans are misogynists waging war on women” schtick. It was all carefully planned in advance.

I wish Trump was saying something about this. This is an important point.

Megyn ought to ignore Trump’s childishness.

This is such a turn off for me. I was just coming around to being in Donald Trump’s corner, since he is a warrior-like candidate, and that is what we need right now. And then, he goes off on some silly tangent.

The question Megyn asked him was perfectly logical, and he needed to respond in an adult manner. He did not, and instead of putting it behind him, he is continuing the idiotic tantrum.

Donald, you are smarter than this, and you will need to be more of an adult if you expect to win the election. This attitude is wearing thin IMHO.

Why would you go into a line of work or a business that requires you to abandon your principles?

Answer: Because you have no principles.

Megan Kelly started it up again as soon as she got back from vacation. The beginning of her show involved trashing trump and coaxing her two guests to do the same.

And Ailes knows it. He was almost certainly tuned in to Megyn's show last night. In fact, he surely chatted with her beforehand about it.

Either this is all Kabuki theater or...?

No it has to be Kabuki theater. Trump is doing it to prove that he will attack anyone who insults him and is going to war with PC culture, and Ailes is doing it for ratings.

What a shock it must be to the Trumpster that everyone in the media doesn’t kiss his ass and constantly talk about what a perfect godlike genius he is.

I can guarantee you hers isn’t the only show criticizing Trump. The majority of shows are. And if he wants to counter the criticism he better address the message and not attack the messenger.

He wants only softball questions.
That is human nature, that is “Dog Bites Man." In fact, it is so much to be expected that we expect any journalist to object to any question at all being directed at him/her.
I like to think of it in reference to a basketball game I was playing, long ago, when I complained to the ref, “It’s getting a little rough in here.” That elicited no response from the ref, but a spontaneous groan from my opponent. I heard that groan, and I instantly knew that he had a good point. Why? Because I was bigger than anyone on the opposition team, which lacked its enforcer and was vulnerable under the boards. I knew instantly - trying to be objective - that I was undoubtedly giving as good as I got. But it is just human nature to be subjective.

Which is why it makes no sense at all to assume or expect that a journalist will be objective. No one who doesn’t have to, will naturally be objective. And journalists don’t have to be, because all journalists are in cahoots. That is not just resentment speaking, that is factually obvious, and the reasons are hiding in plain sight. Namely, that

People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. It is impossible indeed to prevent such meetings, by any law which either could be executed, or would be consistent with liberty and justice. But though the law cannot hinder people of the same trade from sometimes assembling together, it ought to do nothing to facilitate such assemblies; much less to render them necessary. - Adam Smith, Wealth of Nations
And journalists talk to each other all the time. Not merely by reading each other’s output, but by being fellow members of the mutual admiration society known as the Associated Press.

The bottom line - which the First Amendment permits and empowers, and rightly so - is that journalism is propaganda. But what the First Amendment does not do, cannot do, is force the citizenry to accept journalism’s fatuous claims to objectivity. Donald Trump is throwing his weight around under the boards - and Megyn Kelly, propagandist, is complaining about Donald Trump, propagandist. Because of the unity of journalism, it takes some serious clout such as being a multi billionaire to make that a fair fight. Trump seems to be pulling it off . . .

I don’t know that I favor Trumponomics, which sounds more like mercantilism than it does like Adam Smith. But there it is; nobody I like any better has much of a shot. Without Trump, it would surely be Jeb. With Trump, it will probably be Trump. Interesting times. In reality Trump is running a kind of triangulation of sorts, tho differently than WJ Clinton.

That made me want to throw up on my screen.

I would understand your response if the Kelly questions weren’t totally unprofessional character smears.

you missed the point.. Trump’s campaign(not the person) right now is speaking for the average Joe Conservative who has been crapped upon for the last 20 years by his own party just like Reagan’s campaign stood for in 1980.. It doesn’t matter who he backed years ago.. Trump has hit on the big three issues.. immigration, economy and building up the military so big our enemies will fear us again.. that’s why you see Trump with a commanding lead in all these states north, south, east and west.. Perot NEVER had this kind of lead all over the country at this point.. not even close

“He wants only softball questions.”

Stupid remark. He doesn’t want questions like “Any word from God?” type of childish sarcasm from Fox News bimbos.

He has answered all questions. To say he only wants softball questions is just liberal style propaganda intended to denigrate him.

Walker is his real target- Walker’s the only candidate organized crime has reason to fear. Now that he’s way ahead of Walker, Trump has time to waste pretending, like liberals are wont to do, to be victimized by Fox news.

Yet you can’t deny it. If Trump thinks she is so bad why did he watch her entire show? And we know he did, because he made commentary on it.
