Donald Trump's bromides on undocumented immigrants appear to have deeply damaged whatever appeal he might have once had among Hispanic voters.

A new Gallup poll released Monday evening found that 65 percent of Hispanic voters say they have an unfavorable view of Trump, compared with 14% who view him favorably - yielding him a net favorable score of -51, well below any other presidential candidate.

Rage tweets. Those are dangerous.

They can be when Trump's intent is to get Kelly fired. Fortunately Fox News has her back and Trump simply looks like a child having a tantrum when he pulls these antics.

I don’t believe this poll. Many of the Hispanics that I encounter in my day to day activities for the most part like Trump (now going out and voting for him is another matter). They all speak about how they feel cheated because they worked hard and PAID alot of money to become citizens and resent the free pass given to the illegals. (Granted, many of these folks are Cubans, Dominicans and not Mexicans or South Americans so maybe they have a very different take on the matter.)

I guess it all depends on the make up of the polling population - descendants of anchor babies (GASP!!) perhaps or residents of the Peoples Republic of California?

Cruz is a loser. Here, let me help you understand what to watch for...

The best politicians, like the best investors in the financial markets, don’t chase votes. They let the market come to them— knowing that it always will. Then they back up the truck and ride the credit expansion cycle (for growth investors) or the business cycle (for value-oriented investors).

Trump isn’t chasing any demographic. A voter is either with him, or against him— and it doesn’t bother Trump either way. I think he has an affinity for blue collar voters that no one in either party has (or has had) since Reagan. A lot of ink has been dedicated to the lack of turnout by Evangelical voters for Romney. I’d love to see a piece on the same theme for Obama in 2012 amongst blue collar Democrats.

Bottom line: Ted Cruz needs his wife’s Goldman Sachs’ connections and money. He’s verbally gifted, but street stupid. He lacks prescience. He excels at verbal jiu jitsu but lacks the real world experience running things. Cruz would be a fine candidate for Attorney General in a Trump administration, maybe solicitor general, then a jump to the Big Bench when hopefully Ruth Buzzi Ginzburg takes a dirt nap and descends into the eighth circle of hell for defending NAMBLA.

Good. Means his immigration policy is a good one.

Got news for you, Trump polls far higher among blacks then any other GOP candidate. They despise illegals also.

Mexicali has been a lost state for many years...

any one that would vote for a Jerry Brown as governor as many times as he has held that position is quite draft...

and not to mention Diane, Nancy and Barbara....

they all do the mexicali hat dance...

Two weeks ago I would have agreed with you. Now I think Trump knows what he’s doing. Oh well. We’ll see in a couple of weeks if he is hurting himself with this.

What Republican candidate is going to win the Latino vote? Seriously? The only way to win minorities over to the Republican side is to win office first, then take actions that allow minorities to overcome the barricades to success the democrats have saddled them with, and to all the way along take appropriate credit for these successes. Republicans are way too PC about this. When Bush and others appointed women and minorities to office, they should have made a big deal about how democrats had failed to do this, and showcase how inaccurate the democrat message is. You have to hit hard, and not telegraph your punches.

People that came here legally must cringe when they see “illegals” getting all kinds of benefits...while they have to work for a living.

His act will wear thin on people. There is a long, long way to go till even the primaries begin and networks like Fox News have been giving Trump 10 times the coverage (or more) of any other candidate.

Yes, there are occasions in history where anti-intellectual populists rose to power - and we tend to look at them through the prism of time and wonder how such a clown fooled so many people.

That is Trump. A mix of anti-intellectual populist protectionist and cult of personality. For now, many people see in him what whey want to see. The question is, once the media stops treating him with kid gloves (even Fox News), the attack ads begin and opposition research starts piling up against Trump, he will likely reach his “jump the shark” moment.

Time works against Trump here, and he knows it. Saying all that, if Trump is the GOP nominee I intend to vote for him. Not going to sit out and cry and moan if my preferred candidate (Cruz at the moment) doesn’t win.

They must have been polling the line of illegals standing in front of Home Depot

“Who cares? Screw ‘em.”

Yep, if the only way to get their votes is to continue allowing the invasion, screw ‘em.

Yesterday I was walking the dog past a jobsite where a crew of Mexicans were framing a house.

I was tempted to yell “Viva Trump” but noticed a couple of them had nail guns...

“A poll of random hispanics = horse you know what.”

Didn’t take the flamboyant Senator, from SC, to quote those numbers. Which is the main purpose of those kind of worthless push polls to begin with. Makes Graham sound like he has the number behind him. Especially, since the media will be repeating the same bogus numbers over and over.

And yet, if Romney’s Hispanic vote had increased from 27% to 75%, he still would have lost.

If he’d increased his white conservative vote by just 4% he would have won.

Where do the numbers actually point?

That said, true family-based Hispanics will soon actually hear what Trump is saying as opposed to what the media is saying. He said it again on O’Reilly last night: “We must be based on LEGAL immigration.” He went on to say that the illegals will return to their country but that for the good ones that their re-entry into the US would be expedited.

How would I determine the good ones? For me, it would be a simple factor of comparing the social welfare money they had used versus the amount of taxes they had paid. If they were here living off the public dime, then they would not be in the first tier of those having expedited return.

Also, there is no way to revoke anchor baby citizenship. There are no ex post facto laws permitted in the US according to the Constitution. I don’t think that applies only to criminal behavior, the children not having been party to criminal behavior simply by being born here.

Yeah, the usual suspects are busy touting the poll. Meanwhile trump is up to 40%.

What is this fantasy about “winning the Hispanic vote” all about? Where does it come from? Why does anyone care about it?

could result in the most of the few Republicans from California in Congress being swept away

Good riddance.
