Gallup: Hispanics Frown on Trump, but Not Rest of GOP Field
Gallup ^ | 08/25/2015 | Lydia Saad

PRINCETON, N.J. -- U.S. Hispanics are still getting to know most of the Republican contenders for president. At this point in the campaign, less than half have formed an opinion of any Republican candidate except Donald Trump and Jeb Bush. Partly because of this, Hispanics' views of most GOP candidates range from mildly positive to mildly negative. The sole exception is Trump, whose favorable rating with Hispanics is deeply negative.

Hispanics' Views of GOP Presidential Contenders, July-August 2015

Gallup began tracking the images of all the major announced candidates for president nightly in early July. Since then, 14% of the roughly 650 Hispanics interviewed have said they view Trump favorably, while 65% have viewed him unfavorably, yielding a net favorable score of -51. This separates Trump from the next-most-unpopular Republicans among Hispanics -- Rick Perry (-7), Ted Cruz (-7) and Jim Gilmore (-6), who are viewed far less negatively.

Bush presents the greatest contrast to Trump. Bush's average 34% favorable and 23% unfavorable ratings among Hispanics since July give him a +11 net favorable score -- the highest of any GOP candidate. The net favorable scores of Marco Rubio (+5), Carly Fiorina (+3), George Pataki (+3), Scott Walker (+2) and Ben Carson (+2) all tilt slightly positive, although none of these candidates is nearly as well-known among Hispanics as Trump and Bush.

In terms of familiarity, only Trump and Bush are recognized by a majority of Hispanics. Eight in 10 have formed an opinion of Trump and about six in 10 of Bush. Familiarity dwindles to roughly 40% for Rubio and Cruz, both Cuban-Americans, as well as for Perry and Chris Christie, but drops well below that for all the others. (See the full ratings in the tables at the end.)

Disallowing employment and welfare will cause the illegals to leave for their home countries... We should celebrate the spirit of the illegals—opportunity and liberty—going home will make their home countries great and strong—we want for them what we want for America.

Wrong. You need about 40% of Hispanic votes to win. Blowing off 17% of the population is not a winning strategy.

I agree that what you say should be true, but it's not.

I recall listening to a recent analysis of the last three or four presidential elections that reported that even with an extraordinary (i.e., unachievable) shift in the number of "hispanic" votes from Democrat to Republican (something like going from 25% to 70%), the GOP candidate still would not have prevailed in even the closest election; and that but a minor percentage increase in conservative votes (from those who stayed home rather than vote for yet another GOPE/RINO) would have changed the electoral result. (I'm not making this up and will post the link to the study as soon as I can get to it.)

The point is that most "hispanics" who fled their sewer of a country to come here (legal and illegal since both types apparently are able to vote in our elections) didn't do so because they hate their socialist government, but because there's far more "free stuff" to be had here ... paid for, of course, by the far greater number of taxpayers -- that is, productive citizens -- in this country than in "hispania".

No. You merely need a bigger white voter turn out and a higher percentage of the white vote. What you do is use the border wall and illegal immigrant crime as a wedge issue to get the white vote out.

Blowing off 17% of the population is not a winning strategy.

Blowing off 77% of the population(whites) is an even Less winning strategy.

Gallup: Hispanics Frown on Trump, but Not Rest of GOP Field

One size fits all never works here either.

There are three types of "Hispanics": Illegals, which don't count.

Legal but unassimilated, who don't have the smarts to understand the problems, and are led by demagogues.

Legal AND assimilated.

Knowing that, and also knowing what questions were asked, and how they were worded, I suspect would yield different, if not opposite results.

Yes, Gallup is no different that all other "loaded" push polls."
My belief?

Within the legal AND assimilated Hispanics, the support for trump tracks the general population.

Tweeting that Jeb Bush should stop “speaking Mexican” is not going to improve Trump’s standing in the Hispanic community.

D'OH!

Another big D'OH!

It certainly makes absolutely no difference among the unassimilated illiterate ignorant illegal aliens, or among the totally unassimilated fake immigrants, made legal by fiat, not law.

GO TRUMP!!

Had Trump, or Cruz, listened to the “experts” they would likely be in a three way tie for last place along with Graham.
Besides i am trying to figure out why any of our candidates should give a fig what hispanics as a serperate group want?

I hope the bombastic Trump doesn’t fall into that trap.
Speak to Americans not afro-americans or hispic-americans. Tell them they are either Americans or they are not Americans! The mecurial Trump should say, “I want American votes”

Better get busy on that one, then.

The label "Hispanic Vote" is as deliberately fraudulently misleading as "immigrant" these days.

That you have swallowed the fraud hook line and sinker says it all.

Clearly, you don't grasp the differences, and the huge consequences of that monumental ignorance.

Hispanics have been groomed to be the 'new blacks' of the democrat party.

This poll is like asking NRA members if they have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of Joe Biden.

NRA members aren't going to vote for Biden no matter how 'favorable' or 'unfavorable' they see him as a person.

This is a poll designed to hurt Trump. Period.

Lower class Hispanic illegals ARE the NEW BLACKS in the eyes of democrats.

Blowing off 77% of the population(whites) is an even Less winning strategy.

When you take Hispanics that describe themselves as white out of the mix you are down to 62%. And just because you are not denigrating a group doesn't mean you are blowing off another group. Cruz is anti-illegal immigration without the high negatives.

If you're going to slam him for speaking a foreign language then at least correctly identify it as "Spanish" and not "Mexican". I doubt Cuban-Americans think they speak "Mexican" at home.

Hate to break it to you, Dawg, but Cuban is a LOT closer to Mexican "Spanish" than to "Spain" Spanish.

In fact, all Latin American countries' "Spanish" have many common and unique words and expressions incomprehensible to other "Latin countries" two countries removed.

I have no idea of the education level of Jeb's imported Mexican wife but, personal experience tells me that what Jeb speaks is most probably Mexican Spanish.

Difficult to correct stupid.

The same can be said for "ignorant." Too often both coexist.

Sorry, but actually YOU’RE not grasping it.

This pertains to Hispanic adults in the US. While some may not be registered voters, the numbers are still on balance heavily tilted against Trump. I support Trump’s stance on illegals. My point is he has much work cut for him to win that demographic sector over.

Now you can take it and spin it any way you wish, but that doesn’t negate the fact I stated above.

I want a poll asking NRA members HOW they 'feel' about democrats running...

Not they they would EVER vote for a Democrat...

But just to balance out this kind of bullsh*t.

Exactly. And don't you just love it when a relative n00b tells you to go to DU? lol!

I will never understand why anyone who sees I don't support liberal Donald Trump would think I am a liberal. That just makes no sense.

Go Cruz!

The "Hispanic" vote is not the same population as a poll sample of illegal alien "Hispanic" people.

La Raza primarily represents hostile, racist, criminal, illegal alien invaders.

Under current law, non-citizens are not allowed to vote in federal elections, and it is a federal crime for a non-citizen to vote or register to vote in such an election, punishable by imprisonment and/or the initiation of removal proceedings against that individual.[1]

La Raza didn't do the poll. Gallup did. Trump gets 14% positive from Hispanic respondents. Even if you factor out any illegals that is not a very high number.

I'm getting used to the crazy Trumpeter Swoons questioning my conservative cred. A couple of years ago the thought of a Trump run for Presidency would have been met with derision. The guy was to the left of RINOs. Now he's turned his snake oil into the flavor of the month and everybody is sucking it down. Go Cruz!
