Gallup: Hispanics Frown on Trump, but Not Rest of GOP Field
Gallup ^ | 08/25/2015 | Lydia Saad

PRINCETON, N.J. -- U.S. Hispanics are still getting to know most of the Republican contenders for president. At this point in the campaign, less than half have formed an opinion of any Republican candidate except Donald Trump and Jeb Bush. Partly because of this, Hispanics' views of most GOP candidates range from mildly positive to mildly negative. The sole exception is Trump, whose favorable rating with Hispanics is deeply negative.

Hispanics' Views of GOP Presidential Contenders, July-August 2015

Gallup began tracking the images of all the major announced candidates for president nightly in early July. Since then, 14% of the roughly 650 Hispanics interviewed have said they view Trump favorably, while 65% have viewed him unfavorably, yielding a net favorable score of -51. This separates Trump from the next-most-unpopular Republicans among Hispanics -- Rick Perry (-7), Ted Cruz (-7) and Jim Gilmore (-6), who are viewed far less negatively.

Bush presents the greatest contrast to Trump. Bush's average 34% favorable and 23% unfavorable ratings among Hispanics since July give him a +11 net favorable score -- the highest of any GOP candidate. The net favorable scores of Marco Rubio (+5), Carly Fiorina (+3), George Pataki (+3), Scott Walker (+2) and Ben Carson (+2) all tilt slightly positive, although none of these candidates is nearly as well-known among Hispanics as Trump and Bush.

In terms of familiarity, only Trump and Bush are recognized by a majority of Hispanics. Eight in 10 have formed an opinion of Trump and about six in 10 of Bush. Familiarity dwindles to roughly 40% for Rubio and Cruz, both Cuban-Americans, as well as for Perry and Chris Christie, but drops well below that for all the others. (See the full ratings in the tables at the end.)

Seriously, when Hillary or Bernie or whomever goes out there and begins promising MORE FREE SH*T, do we REALLY think they are going to vote Republican? Really???

I’m just going by the figure the state contolled “media” has been using for the past 50 years. Hence the sarcasm tag.

You and the pundits keep saying that, but his poll numbers just keep going up.

Maybe you are wrong?

I understand. But that is interesting, isn’t it? And I think before it’s over, Trump will make significant inroads into both Hispanic and black votes, relatively (i.e., maybe he’ll get 12% of blacks, which would be a significant gain).

he will not be winning the Hispanic vote.

When the time comes, I'll bet he will, because he is mas macho than anyone else in the race. Peasant cultures (not that I don't love them, but they are what they are) love dictators, because they want to go with a winner.

The measurement itself seems odd. Who cares whether a candidate is supported by a majority of some vaguely defined racial agglomeration? The only question in an election is how many votes you get. If you have more (legal) voters, that's better for your total. Fewer, worse. It doesn't matter if more of some group doesn't like you. The only thing that counts is whether there are enough of those who do, to help put you over the top.

The GOP is willing to abandon the rule of law and surrender the country to get an additional 10% of 13% of the total vote.
Stupid is as stupid does when 65% of the citizens want the cheap labor importation/colonization/illegal alien inundation stopped.

Trump’s already got the Silent Majority—which speaks English.

Trump lost in the Mexican Jumping Bean poll but good news is he’ll win the election.

“Tweeting that Jeb Bush should stop “speaking Mexican” is not going to improve Trump’s standing in the Hispanic community”

He’s right - if choosing to be in the US, speak English. Or leave.

Mexifornia is ruined - signs, ads, everything in Spanish. Classrooms are taught in Spanish. The rest of the country has no idea how bad the invasion is.

Screw La Raza. Who wants them anyway? If they can't see past skin tone politics then the brown vote isn't worth it.

They are either for law and order or they are corrupt. That is the choice they need to make. All of us need to make.

You bet they are. Previous polls of Spanish derivation citizens voters show Trump leading among Republicans.

That said, it is obvious that the illegals will be voting in large numbers this cycle and every one of their votes will be for the Democrat no matter which Republican opposes him.

And they’ll lose mire if the white vote.

He's wrong in that Bush was not speaking "Mexican". He was speaking Spanish.

Trump doesn't need the "hispanic" vote and he won't get the "hispanic" vote.

Wrong. You need about 40% of Hispanic votes to win. Blowing off 17% of the population is not a winning strategy.

Don't blow off legal citizen Spanish so easily. Many of them resent the illegals' taking their jobs and cheapening their own Citizenship and will vote for a Republican who takes on the issue forthrightly. Spanish middle class citizens will largely vote as do other middle class citizens. Welfare Spanish citizens will vote as do other welfare class citizens.

If you're going to slam him for speaking a foreign language then at least correctly identify it as "Spanish" and not "Mexican".

I've heard Spanish in Spain and in Mexico. In Mexico, except for the educated classes, you might as well call it Mexican. Put it this way: Start talking to them in Castilian and they will look up at you, puzzled.

I doubt Cuban-Americans think they speak "Mexican" at home.

Darn right they don't. They speak Spanish.

They’re not going to vote for a Republican anyway; unless there is free shit involved for them. Screw ‘em.

Absolutely.
