Gallup: Hispanics Frown on Trump, but Not Rest of GOP Field
Gallup ^ | 08/25/2015 | Lydia Saad

PRINCETON, N.J. -- U.S. Hispanics are still getting to know most of the Republican contenders for president. At this point in the campaign, less than half have formed an opinion of any Republican candidate except Donald Trump and Jeb Bush. Partly because of this, Hispanics' views of most GOP candidates range from mildly positive to mildly negative. The sole exception is Trump, whose favorable rating with Hispanics is deeply negative.

Hispanics' Views of GOP Presidential Contenders, July-August 2015

Gallup began tracking the images of all the major announced candidates for president nightly in early July. Since then, 14% of the roughly 650 Hispanics interviewed have said they view Trump favorably, while 65% have viewed him unfavorably, yielding a net favorable score of -51. This separates Trump from the next-most-unpopular Republicans among Hispanics -- Rick Perry (-7), Ted Cruz (-7) and Jim Gilmore (-6), who are viewed far less negatively.

Bush presents the greatest contrast to Trump. Bush's average 34% favorable and 23% unfavorable ratings among Hispanics since July give him a +11 net favorable score -- the highest of any GOP candidate. The net favorable scores of Marco Rubio (+5), Carly Fiorina (+3), George Pataki (+3), Scott Walker (+2) and Ben Carson (+2) all tilt slightly positive, although none of these candidates is nearly as well-known among Hispanics as Trump and Bush.

In terms of familiarity, only Trump and Bush are recognized by a majority of Hispanics. Eight in 10 have formed an opinion of Trump and about six in 10 of Bush. Familiarity dwindles to roughly 40% for Rubio and Cruz, both Cuban-Americans, as well as for Perry and Chris Christie, but drops well below that for all the others. (See the full ratings in the tables at the end.)

“Tweeting that Jeb Bush should stop “speaking Mexican” is not going to improve Trump’s standing in the Hispanic community.”

If the requirement to win the presidency means the candidate has to speak in a foreign language, then that means we have already lost our country.

Trump doesn't need the "hispanic" vote and he won't get the "hispanic" vote.

But Trump says he will win the Hispanic vote. I've heard him say this many, many, many times now - in between telling us how great he is. Have you not heard him say this? Is this non politician outsider that is so revered here on much of FR lying to us?

Now crybaby Trump is butt hurt cause Megan Kelly showed these numbers last night. Trump is like -51 points underwater with Hispanics. No, like much of the rest of the nonsense Trump spouts, he will not be winning the Hispanic vote.

“not frown on” not equal to “vote for”

Big deal—Hispanics are going to vote almost two-thirds against the GOP candidate anyway. With Trump, they already know how they’re voting.

Heard he also lost the La Raza straw poll.
Isn’t this the poll Megyn showed last night. Results from 7/5-8/15.

The Left wants to make everything tribal? That’s a double edge sword, and one side of the sword is a whole lot sharper just based on sheer numbers.

Next couple of years, one expects we’re about to see how excited the Left really is over the idea of the US Constitution as a “living breathing document...”. Just have a funny feeling they will be begging for jurists who render less creative interpretations.

Trump and Cruise want their hands out of the cookie jar and Hispanics LIKE SOMEONE ELSE PAYING THEIR BILLS. Why spend their money when they can spend yours?

Vote Democrat to stay poor and get free stuff or vote Cruz or Trump and either support yourself or go home; hmmmmm which would serve them that they would choose?

If the requirement to win the presidency means the candidate has to speak in a foreign language, then that means we have already lost our country.

If you're going to slam him for speaking a foreign language then at least correctly identify it as "Spanish" and not "Mexican". I doubt Cuban-Americans think they speak "Mexican" at home.

Why should we care. After all, there are only "11 million" of them and most of them are in "unjustly" incarcerated for "loving" America too much.

Trump will in fact get a larger share of the Hispanic vote than McCain or Romney, I'll guarantee you that. A poll of NV Republicans showed Hispanic Republicans prefer him 3:1 over Yeb.

Trump will do fine, especially after the dust settles in the primary. All Hispanics are not leech-sucking welfare magnets.

They’re not going to vote for a Republican anyway; unless there is free shit involved for them. Screw ‘em.

Cuban-Americans make up a pretty conservative block. And their homeland speaks "Spanish" not "Mexican".

Trump doesn’t need to worry about the Hispanic vote at the moment. He can pick someone like Susana Martinez as VP later on to solve this problem.

She is a governor, conservative, fluent in Spanish, etc.

Bingo. Rats offer free stuff to every group. That’s the only way they can garner votes.

Gallup Poll says Hispanics Frown on Trump....but kiss-up to mamasita Hillary.

Yawn...more evidence of the Latino Bund's hatred for America.

Can't have patriots leading the US, can we?

Indicative of the sub-rosa plot to overthrow the US govt w/ Democrat allies.

Looking out for "their kind" ... it's only "racist" when whites do it.

Tweeting that Jeb Bush should stop “speaking Mexican” is not going to improve Trump’s standing in the Hispanic community.

And trolling Megyn Kelly and retweeting tweets that she's a bimbo (again) isn't going to help with women.

He's an extinction level event.

RE: Why should we care. After all, there are only “11 million”

I would check that number again. As of 2012, Hispanics constitute 17% of the United States population, or 53 million people.

If that's the case, it'd be good to have a conservative on the ticket.
