How depressed can a local economy be — that the stick-up men are reduced to knocking over burger joints?

The “no guns allowed” sign on the front door must have been written in cursive.

Was this to help catch the perps to arrest them or to warn them of the potential health hazards of even being in a Whataburger and how the masks will not protect them against the most serious of the germs there?

Seriously, find ‘em; shoot ‘em

I used to frequent that Whataburger back in the day. Sad.

Does Whataburger say it doesn’t allow concealed carry or just open?

Likewise.

Indeed I attended the elementary school nearby and remember how excited the school kids were when that Whataburger opened RIGHT NEXT DOOR!

That used to be a nice quiet middle class area. In the 2000s the feds started dumping Section 8 housing recipients into the area and now my home town is a toilet.

It makes me very sad and angry.

Yeah, we probably ran into each other! lol

I moved away from Texas in 2002. My plan has been to move back when I retire. But sometimes I wonder.

Say, is Whataburger just saying no open carry or is it concealed carry also?

Kind of depends on how busy a day it was, whether they use a drop safe and how they manage their cash on hand.

I can’t see them having a lot of store traffic at that extremely early hour.

It has said they allow concealed. They forbid open carry.

I think they allow concealed only because they cant tell which of their customers are carrying concealed anyhow.

Whataburger DOES still allow concealed carry. Here’s a press release from July 2 of this year:

News Releases
Whataburger Addresses Open Carry Policy
Company | July 2, 2015 | San Antonio
There’s been a lot of talk the past couple weeks about Whataburger’s open carry policy, and I wanted to reach out to personally explain our position.

Whataburger supports customers’ Second Amendment rights and we respect your group’s position, but we haven’t allowed the open carry of firearms in our restaurants for a long time (although we have not prohibited licensed conceal carry). It’s a business decision we made a long time ago and have stood by, and I think it’s important you know why.

But first, as a representative of Whataburger, I want you to know we proudly serve the gun rights community. I personally enjoy hunting and also have my concealed carry license, as do others at Whataburger.

From a business standpoint, though, we have to think about how open carry impacts our 34,000+ employees and millions of customers. We serve customers from all walks of life at more than 780 locations, 24 hours a day, in 10 states and we’re known for a family friendly atmosphere that customers have come to expect from us. We’re the gathering spot for Little League teams, church groups and high school kids after football games.

We’ve had many customers and employees tell us they’re uncomfortable being around someone with a visible firearm who is not a member of law enforcement, and as a business, we have to listen and value that feedback in the same way we value yours. We have a responsibility to make sure everyone who walks into our restaurants feels comfortable. For that reason, we don’t restrict licensed concealed carry but do ask customers not to open carry in our restaurants.

As a company serving customers with many different viewpoints, we’re sometimes caught in the middle on controversial issues like this one. We hope you and your members, along with our other friends in the gun rights community, understand our position and will continue to visit us. We appreciate your business. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Preston Atkinson
Whataburger President and CEO

Don't take this wrong, but you kind of have to have experience in the business to get what I'm saying. You are thinking of this in terms of hourly take, that is not how it works, all cash from sales is on hand in the safe until, 1. A management person takes the deposit to the bank, very risky or 2. Armored truck transports the cash to the bank. So depending on how they handle their cash there could be a fair amount in the safe. Still not worth the risk to normal, intelligent people.
