A gunman opened fire on board a high speed train in northern France.
Eyewitnesses said three U.S. Marines on the train disarmed the gunman.
The man was armed with a deadly a Kalashnikov AK-47 assault rifle.
Three people were wounded and the gunman is currently in police custody.

According to other reports, the Marines were seated next to the train car’s lavatory. The jihadi decided to assemble and load his AK in there and the very distinctive (not to mention loud) sound of the AK going off safe and chambering a round is what alerted the Marines. Dude came out, started shooting and got piled on by the Marines.

You’ll never convince some people that Soldiers and Marines are not the same. Just accept that you could call Marines Bozo the Clown, you’ll just call them that with respect.
This explains it. As one who have heard those sequence of sounds in a combat situation, it is something that you never, never forgets. It could not be anything else. Well done, Marines.

I’ve never been in the military, let alone been a Marine; though my father was. I am, however, the owner of an AK pattern weapon and even I know that there’s only one thing in the world that makes a ‘Tok-SHRACK-SHRACK’ noise. If you’re *not* at the range or a gun shop and you hear that noise, bad s**t is about to happen.
I’m not Marine, but that sound is fused into my nervous system and generates a visceral response which is a factor that I am still alive to this day.

Generally speaking in the Germanic languages the word Marine translates as mariner or Sailor.
The Dutch word “zeesoldaat” or literally “sea soldier” is what we call a Marine. The German word for Marine is Marinesoldat.

It is that sort of noise, isn’t it? Shockingly loud, cuts through a lot of noises you wouldn’t think it could, and absolutely unforgettable once you’ve heard it.

When I took the Eurostar from Paris to London in May of 2006, French military were patrolling the station. That was Gare du Nord station. We also had to go through security, show our passports, and have our luggage x-rayed before we were allowed on the platform.
