Former president Jimmy Carter said that the cancer doctors discovered earlier this year, on his liver, has spread to his brain and that he will receive his first radiation treatment for the disease Thursday afternoon.
"I'm perfectly at ease with whatever comes," Carter said at a news conference.
Carter, 90, said Thursday that doctors found "four spots of melanoma on my brain -- small spots" after first discovering cancer during an Aug. 3 operation to remove a tumor from his liver.
During that surgery, Carter said, doctors suspected that the cancer had originated in other parts of his body. They later discovered the melanoma spots, about "two millimeters" in size, on his brain.
Doctors removed about one-tenth of his liver during the surgery, which he said healed quickly and left him with "minimal pain."
He will undergo four courses of radiation to treat the cancer in his brain.
Carter said doctors will continue to scan his body for cancer, in an effort to determine where the melanoma originated.

A man who spent his entire political life, and in retirement, often wrong, but seldom in doubt. Dear Lord, please take him soon, with as little pain as possible, but take him.

My step-daughter passed away in April after undergoing many treatments for cancer for over a year. It had spread to her brain as well, and they even had to install a port in her head for chemo. She was only 55, so she gave the treatment a shot, though it turned out to be futile. However, at his age of 90, I’m surprised Jimmah is willing to go through such intense treatments that will only extend his life by a year at most (if the treatments themselves don’t kill him at his age).
Under obamaumaocare a 90 year old man would NOT receive radiation for brain cancer, or chemo for that matter. You know, useful productive remaining life etc. Carter should, if he believes in obamaumaocare (which he doesn’t), take himself out of the medical expense and “waste of time” these procedures would produce. Recovery is slim to none, statistically on this late metastasis.
Just an obamaumaocare observation for the other socialists who decide these things for the rest of us peasants.

He’s 90.
He’ll be in Hospice before Thanksgiving.
Tough way to go, he was actually supposed to go on to great things in the Navy before his dad died and he had to go back to Georgia to the peanut farm and politics.

My dad battled cancer for a decade, always treating it only to see it return somewhere else.
When it spread to his brain, we all knew the fight would soon be over. He was diagnosed in August and passed away in November.
