I heard the Russians had a similar experience on their end. Some malfunction caused radar blips which could have been interpreted as a US launch, but some moderate level officer held off pending confirmation.
It’s disturbing. But, these days, I think whenever I see something like this in the news that it’s part of the incessant leftist drive to convince the US to self-disarm.

You'r referring to a story where Russia was receiving repeated warnings over a 10 minute period of a massive nuclear attack launched from the US. The nuclear protocol regarding a perceived attack in the Soviet Union was the same approach in place for the US. MAD. Mutual Assured Destruction. The senior supervisor for Russia's nuclear defense was on duty studying the situation as it happened, confirming an attack by the US being imminent from several sources. But the supervisor made the determination that the report was being made in error and called off any return launch with the same massive amounts as that of the alleged attack. It was in fact confirmed that the report being received by Russia was indeed in error.
Eventually Russia realized that they had made the error and the supervisor was hailed a national hero, was feted to celebrations as savior of the fatherland.

Yeah, the malfunction was probably a drunk Soviet bureaucrat failing to pass on the international notification from the Norwegians (iirc) about their launching a scientific rocket from a location, on a date, and at an estimated time in order to avoid accidentally triggering a response.

I don’t believe you are thinking incorrectly at all.

We are disarmed. By logic of circumstance, alone. We are fully out numbered. Numb, being the true base idea of reality. There may be a storm coming. Get ready, the best you can. No kiddin’. You can do better, than you are right now. Get water and canned foods. Dry foods will be better in the long run. Regardless, start now. Get water and canned stores, immediately. Renew your faith, or start. Just do the next right thing, no matter what.
