One of Cecil the lion's cubs has reportedly been killed by a rival male who was trying to mate with his mother.

Cecil, a 13-year-old lion who was beloved by visitors and park rangers at his home in Zimbabwe, was killed last month by an American dentist on a hunting trip.

The death of one of Cecil's eight cubs has raised fears for his remaining offspring, which could also be targeted by the large predatory male lion.

I’m beginning not to believe anything I hear about Cecil. This story appeared Saturday on the Daily Mail website:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3190750/One-Cecil-lion-s-cubs-killed-rival-male-sparking-fears-remaining-seven-just-days-left-live-beast-slaughtered-dentist.html

Notice this information in that story: “Muchinguri also said Palmer’s use of a bow and arrow to kill the lion, who is said to have been lured out of Hwange National Park with bait before being shot, was in contravention of Zimbabwean hunting regulations.”

However, there was also another article at the same website on SUNDAY (AFTER the first article I linked):

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3191363/Anger-Zimbabwe-LIFTS-hunting-ban-introduced-following-Cecil-lion-s-death-just-ONE-week.html

On that 2nd article, it says this: “At the same time the parks and wildlife authority Zimparks also suspended hunting with bows and arrows - which Palmer had used to injure Cecil - except with permission from the authority’s head.”

So, which is it? Was hunting with a bow and arrow “in contravention of Zimbabwean hunting regulations” at the time Palmer shot the lion, or was it just now suspended as the 2nd article says?

Not one person has brought up the fact that Cecil most likely killed his rivals cub’s when he took over the pride.

A lioness may mate with more than one male when she is in heat.

How do they know all 8 were fathered by Cecil?

DNA?

And now I read somewhere the hunting ban has been lifted after 2 weeks. #bigmoneymatters

Yeah, and the adult male lion eats cubs -- even his own -- when he needs a quick snack.

Sounds like a call to jerry springer may be in order. Or moreee poovich. Maybe we could get jerry rivers to go look in to it. Maybe interview the perp. Well, alleged perp. But, don’t let him near Cecil’s widow.

The Cecil worshipers will saddle up and ride again. Too bad they will not put themselves between the next villager that the lion decides to make a meal of.

I do not really care. I know that will make the Cecil worshipers gnash their teeth in rage and anger.

Why can’t they just accept that it was a “choice” of terminating intact Lionel fetus’s?

“A lioness may mate with more than one male when she is in heat.”

Sure, she might be amenable to that, but if there is a dominant male in the pride, he’s not going to allow it.

Who cares? Lions do this all the time. They are LIONS. Lions don’t have “names”. They’d just as soon kill you as look at you. The people in zimbabwe think we are idiots.

How dare you question the SANCTITY of our mindless media-driven obsessions!

Not one person has brought up the fact that Cecil most likely killed his rivals cub’s when he took over the pride.

Or that he has cubs at all. A lion that old is very unlikely to have any mate at all, given all the younger lions constantly fighting for the lionesses.
