With crucial legislative elections less than four months away, Venezuela is tilting toward a major social crisis.
Endemic food shortages have plagued Venezuela for years, worsening with the decline of global oil prices in late 2014.
Now they are the norm across the country. This has stoked public discontent and led to the isolated looting of food stores and supermarkets.

Yes, forgot about them.
With their big population, they’ll be next probably.
For some reason, people never learn. I guess the appeal of getting something for nothing is too strong. The 10th Commandment about coveting is an important warning, and disobeying it produces nothing but misery.
Yes, tilting was 16 years ago.
They need to look on the bright side of that: there's no toilet paper either, so not eating only helps.
by their fruits shall you know them....
We already did. The wealthy ones moved to South Florida years ago and settled in several communities. They are not as insufferable as the Argentianians are, fortunately. Argentinians I dated seemingly hated everyone else.
Successful as far as takeover? True, but it’s never strayed far from socialism. Right now folks are screaming over Dilma much of the time.
Liberals can see Global Warming 50 years in the future but they can’t see this in front of their faces.
All this talk of Venezuela not having toilet paper is just propaganda spread by the running dogs of the capitalist roaders When President Nicholas Maduro (peace be upon him) created the Deputy Ministry of Supreme Social Happiness he insured that there would be plenty of toilet paper for himself and his immediate circle. I guarantee you that if Sean Penn visits Venezuela he will not lack toilet paper. The Ministry of Supreme Happiness has even set up Potemkin supermarkets where you can buy almost anything at quite reasonable prices.
That’s funny; I’ve worked with several South Americans (Colombians, Ecuadorans, Peruvians), and they all dislike Argentines - apparently they look down on the non-European South Americans.
A joke from one of them: An Argentinian son says to his father, “Some day I want to grow up to be just like you.” The father asks, “Really? Why?” To which the son responds, “So I can have a son just like me...”.
Argentina gave Che to the world.
Did you know that Che’s real last name is “Lynch”. He is of Irish and Basque heritage.
I was reading that they were running out of beer there. If that doesn’t bring down the government, I don’t know what will.
Lol! I lived in SoFlo for 20 years. It was a fantastic experience for exposure to the different cultures. Yes, I had the same thing about the Argentinians for folks from other countries. Also similar things about Mexico, from what I hear the ladies cannot stand Mexican “machos”. For myself, I’m just trying to find out what does translate directly in one country and what translates into a profanity in another and learn their menu. And personally, I mourn the loss of Mexico as a friend and alley. I used to have so much fun there but now I can’t talk any of the family into risking a visit.
Why are they taking so long to string the guy up?
Didn’t know that (but I’m not surprised - like many communists, he is much lighter-skinned than those he wanted to use as cannon fodder).
Yes, relations with Mexico have gone downhill lately; wanted to visit there years ago, but now wouldn’t dare. My auto insurance covers me in Canada but not Mexico (in part due to the rampant corruption - if a police chief wants your car, it is his).
What’s funny because most of the idiots that worship Che probably think he was of native indian heritage.
You’re probably right - though he’d have the most facial hair of any Inca-type I’ve ever seen. I wish those who wore those goofy shirts also knew how unpopular he was with the Indians he was “saving”; their lack of support led to his death.
Too bad this upcoming collapse didn’t happen during Chavez’ tenure. Would have loved seeing his lifeless mangled body being dragged through the streets of Caracas.
The elections will either be rigged or canceled. Count on it. When progressives can’t win a fair election, they just steal it.
