Gilmore was a damned good governor here in VA. He ran on a promise of ridding us of the personal property tax, and once in office set about doing just that. He had success, working with the state legislature, in dumping 50% of it. Unfortunately the state Senate hamstrung him from any further cuts. Gilmore was also a steady leader in the aftermath of 9/11.

I met him at a Palin political rally in Richmond in 2008. He’s very impressive up close. If he ever caught fire and moved up, he’d be a good VP possibility.
