“American, single-handedly, saves 600 African antelopes and 12 baby elephants — by killing a lion.” As you read the first part of the previous sentence, you most likely are thinking “this is a good guy.” But when you read the last part of the sentence — particularly if you are a cat lover — you may be thinking “this is a bad guy.”
Adult lions on average eat about 15 pounds of meat a day. In the wild, they feed primarily on medium-size animals, such as antelopes and occasional baby elephants. The late Cecil the lion, killed by the American dentist, was reported to be about 13 years old. Cecil probably killed and consumed roughly 70,000 pounds of meat during his life, which likely included many hundreds of antelopes and baby elephants.
When you see a wildlife movie where a lion is chasing an antelope, do you root for the lion or the antelope? Even if you are a cat lover, how many antelopes do you think should die to feed one lion?
In Northern Virginia where I live, whitetail deer are very plentiful — too plentiful, according to the wildlife biologists. So the county police and others kill deer from September to February by shooting them with guns or arrows. The local animal rights people are opposed to such deer “culling,” but seem to have no good answers as to how to control the deer population.
The deer reproduce rapidly because their natural predators have been eliminated — and have only partially been replaced by the automobile. Each year, there are thousands of collisions between deer and automobiles. A few years ago, in a tragic accident, a local school librarian was killed when her car hit a deer.

I predict that this Cecil the Lion story is about to quietly fade away.
Why?
There are calls to extradite the dentist to ZIMBABWE. That’s right, hand him over to ROBERT MUGABE to face Zimbabwean justice.
Obviously he will fight that tooth-and-nail. The MSM is not going to want to cover that fight, as it will push TYRANNY and FAILED SOCIALISM into the top of the news cycle just as next year’s election is setting up. Bad for Democrats, so it can’t happen.
Hence I suspect the Cecil the Lion story is about to quietly fade away.
I always thought Cecil the Lion was a cartoon character who sold cereal anyway.
My Dad grew up on a farm where chickens, cows and pigs were killed on a regular basis. He also went hunting. He also killed animals that were a threat to him or the livestock. He learned early about real life and death.
Compare that to today’s kids growing up in the cities and suburbs. They see constant fake death on TV and in movies. They never see animals killed.
Looks like meat is back on the table boys.
Not to mention the number of people that Cecil has probably eaten of the years...
Also, it is sad that some people are more worried about a lion being killed that we are about the thousands of babies.
The only agreement that I have with the lion people is that the alleged way that he was shot is not considered hunting.
While these people are spilling buckets of “CROCODILE TEARS” on Cecil the lion, let’s take a look at what really happens in that part of Africa. Every year hundreds of Africans are killed by lions. Lions are not an endangered specie. And another thing, now that Cecil the lion is dead, his ofsprings will be killed by another male lion that has taken over his pride. And the meat that Cecil provided will feed lots of Africans. So, this really has nothing to do with killing that lion, it has everything to do with these people against killing any animal. They cry and moan about rats and rabbits that are being experimented on, in laboratories, but re for “FETUSES” being sold for experiments
There was an unnamed cartoon lion who pitched Crispy Critters cereal. He’d utter the brand name softly, then came the stampede:
“The one and only cereal that comes in the shape of animals!!!”
Alas,this something to ponder, maybe sitting quietly with a cigar or puffing on one’s favorite pipe!
The first thing that comes to mind is from the Book of Genesis: “God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” So God puts His people in control.
and the second is that God also created nature as it is - from the weather patterns to the system of life in the jungle - each species has a predator to control the over abundance. The hunter is such a predator and his nemesis is the environmentalist. And so the world turns....
I ate Crispy Critters. It was NOT a very tasty cereal.
Oh, and Mr. Author, I ALWAYS root for the kitties, big and small. From Tom and Sylvester up throw the big cats going after four legged dinner.
