Rush Limbaugh: Trump May 'Blow Up' the 'Establishment' Debate Formula
Newsmax ^ | August 3, 2015 | Cathy Burke

Posted on 08/04/2015 5:52:36 AM PDT by Hojczyk

Limbaugh said it would make sense that Trump would challenge the debate format.

"I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Donald Trump's objective is to blow up this whole format," he said. "Because it's predictable. It's stale…. I think at some point, Trump's gonna say how stupid he thinks this is and how unproductive he thinks this is and how basically what a waste of time."

Limbaugh concedes the high-flying real estate billionaire probably won't use those words, "because he's there."

"But he'll talk about how it's not productive toward choosing a candidate, that it just muddies the waters, and it doesn't give anybody enough time to do anything, and there's no way that all 10 people can personally interact with each other," he said.

Fox News moderators of the debate will try to "get good publicity when it's over by credit for asking the right questions or policing the thing well," he pointed out.

"I wouldn't be surprised if Trump … at some point, maybe after he thinks he's scored a big point… would basically start lambasting the whole format and say, 'You know what? This is what is wrong with choosing a president. What does this got to do with anything? We're all up here, and everybody knows that nine out of 10 of these people, eight out of these, are not going anywhere. What are we doing here? This is crazy. All we're gonna do for two or three hours here is tell everybody how rotten each other is? … What are we wasting our time for? Making TV ratings for?' "

Or, Trump couldturn to Chris Wallace and say, “You’re fired!”

I think Trump will act like a statesmen…but after the debate a day or two he may say I am not going to do all the debates… the same people watch… a waste of my time….he may pick and choose

I heard this yesterday on Rush, and while he’s on the money in some aspects, I was disappointed he didn’t learn the lessons of 2011-12. In that series of debates, Newt clearly showed how it can be done. He dominated the debates, while he was the “good Newt.” It wasn’t the establishment that cost Newt, it was his own obsession with Mitt - and his abandonment of what worked early in Iowa and in SC in Florida, that cost him.

Trump has assumed the role of the hardest fighter in the group. Newt showed the estabs can be beaten. He beat them, then he beat himself. Had he stayed on his SC message, he would have surely won Florida by double digits and history would be very different.

Trump doesn’t have to blow up the format...he can dominate the format within the format. Not many can, but Newt could and did...and Trump can.

Yeah, I’ve been cringing at letting a little lib weenie like Wallace do a Republican debate. Might as well be on MSNBC.

I've seen this before and my impression of our fellow "conservatives" isn't exactly soaring these days.

It would not surprise me if Trump waits til the debate is over and then say he thinks its a waste of time. Lets be real it pretty much is. Every 4 years a lot of the same tired faces show up and talk talk talk. Nothing ever changes. I’m tired of it myself.

If you caught the NH candidates forum on CSPAN last night you got to see everybody but Trump in a pretty good forum. No gotcha questions and time to answer. After awhile I realized that not one of the candidates as usual could bring themselves when directly asked to name even one rogue or unnecessary govt agency they could bear to shutdown. That tells you everything you need to know about their interest in cutting the size of govt.

That’s valid, Newt and Trump - to a degree only - so lest be honest about history....with the take over of the Congress in 94 and with forcing about 70% of the Contract with America down Bill Clinton’s throat, Newt, for all his flaws, has indeed accomplished a whole lot for conservatism......far more than Trump ever has. And I think they’re about the same age.

Trump had me rolling when he dissed Rick Perry and his eyeglasses. Perry more than deserved it for what he said about Trump.

True enough. I can’t deny that Gingrich actually did some good. However, his flipping from one side to the other all seems to have been after he was out of congress.

Yep - and for those reasons, I avoided Newt like the plague - until in debate after debate, he made it clear that he was the only man on the stage capable of taking a hard core ideological campaign right at Obama, his liberal buddies in Congress, liberal judges, liberal academics, liberal unions....liberals in the media.

Newt was always a bit of a risk, but he was the only one talented enough to roll all of those liberals into one debate answer and move the needle in just two minutes time. That and his success in the 90s are why I eventually ended up on his train.

All the others talk about what they’d do in the future. Trump talks about what he’d do now. That’s leadership.

OH I figured that liberal bastard would be running the debate.

He’ll parrot liberal and establishment talking points.....

Trump is showing leadership - something I've said in published columns and books since 2011. But your assertion about the others and in the future is just bull poop. By the way, one thing Trump will not do now, is focus on limited government and the Constitution. Maybe some leaders have a little bit of a direction problem. Are you okay with a President not concerned (that we know of) with limiting government and returning to Constitutional principles? I'm not.

I think there’s gonna be fireworks between Megyn Kelly and Trump. He’ll say something patronizing and dismissive, and she’ll jump down his throat. Remember what she did to Erick Erickson.

think you’re right ...Trumps likely to enter this debate as he would a business conference or meetings to make a deal. He’s certainly capable of being “professional”. But I also think it will depend on how this debate is structured. .... Trump will adapt in order to get his message out.

However, Perry’s been anxious to gain some headwind and wants to cream Trump.....so how Perry presents himself is going to matter if he cuts loose on Trump again.

(When Perry unloaded on Trump it was notable he was “reading” off a script.)
