Obama poised to unveil major climate change plan [Poised to stamp out coal once and for all]

Washington (AFP) - With one eye on his legacy, US President Barack Obama will Monday unveil what he called the "biggest, most important step we've ever taken" in the fight against climate change.

The White House will release the final version of America's Clean Power Plan, a set of environmental rules and regulations that will home in on pollution from the nation's power plants, setting limits on power-plant carbon emissions for the first time.

Plants will have to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 32 percent from 2005 levels by 2030, in an ambitious drive which will boost the renewable-energy sector but which is already facing stern opposition.

Obama will deliver his eagerly anticipated remarks at the White House at 2:15 pm (1815 GMT).

Laying out how climate change is a threat to the economy, health and security of America, and adding that time was of the essence, Obama said in a video released early Sunday: "Climate change is not a problem for another generation. Not any more.

"Power plants are the single biggest source of harmful carbon pollution that contributes to climate change," added Obama, who made the battle against climate change a core promise of his 2008 election campaign.

"But until now, there have been no federal limits to the amount of that pollution that those plants can dump into the air."

He added that without imposing the unprecedented limits, "existing power plants can still dump unlimited amounts of harmful carbon pollution into the air weekly.

"For the sake of our kids, for the health and safety of all Americans, that's about to change."

Power plants account for some 40 percent of US emissions of carbon dioxide, the most common greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change.

“#3) Nobody will even want to mention Obama’s name by then. Media included.”

I hope for what little time I have left on this Planet (reference is to age) to hear his name over, and over again always with the phrase “never again”.

No more Obama’s. Never again.

Plus, these same New Englanders still do not want a natural gas line to go through their state, town, neighborhood.
I pass signs everyday that read: NO Pipeline.

Kinder Morgan is proposing to build a 3’ diameter pipeline from PA, through NY, MA, NH. From there it will connect with existing infrastructure. The need is to fill the void from reducing coal and switching our power plants to natural gas.

We(NH) have been paying some of the highest electricity rates in the country for years. My bill for about 680 kw including taxes was $122 for the most recent billing cycle.

You don’t seem to understand the deal that was made with the Obama administration between some of the Coal companies and the EPA.

The deal was to ban all coal fired plants in the US, but to facilitate the shipment of sub-bituminous coal, mostly found in the western US, to Asia through new coal ports in WA and Oregon.

To do this, they need the help of the export-import bank because the price of the sub bituminous coal is so low that it is now cheaper than dirt, literally.

That is what the deal was that McConnell made with Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray. McConnell being from a coal producing state was probable put under pressure by the coal companies and Richard Trumpka, who, as the former head of the UMW, has a special interest in the deal.

Have we ever had a President who has been wrong on every single issue ? The only good trait he has is consistency.

After the exposure of the Mann emails at East Anglia, Peabody Energy sued the federal EPA, demanding that they show new, provable science regarding global warming and the relationship of coal to global warming.

Peabody won both the original case and the appeal. The government didn’t want to take the case any farther, so they made a deal with Peabody. The deal what we are seeing, now. The government would continue its war on bituminous and anthracite coal, mostly mined on private land in the Eastern half of the country, but the government would facilitate the mining and sale of coal, mined in the Western half of the country as long as it was shipped to Asia.

Richard Trumka helped put the deal together.

Because your Republican congressmen allow it. Not picking on you but my God we expect Democrats to wake up when people vote for the R’s won’t wake up, either.

Congress has more power than the President. Let that sink in people! EVERY THING that is going on in this country Republicans are for it that is why they allow it. McConnell stopping the amendment to stop funding to Planned Parenthood should be proof enough.

Watch what they do not what they say.
