GOP presidential hopeful Jeb Bush announced a six-point plan to improve border security Monday, calling for a series of basic steps that draw general agreement and a controversial crackdown on sanctuary cities.
Mr. Bush, a former two-term Florida governor, said he was a trailblazer in working to enlist his state police to help enforce federal immigration laws, and said those cities and counties that refuse to cooperate should have federal law enforcement grants withheld.
His six-point plan, released to WMUR, a television station in New Hampshire, where the GOP candidates are gathered for a forum later Monday, calls for a more flexible Border Patrol strategy and more technology both already part of President Obamas strategy but does not specifically call for more agents.
-snip-
Most controversial, though, is his backing of a crackdown on so-called sanctuary cities and counties, which are jurisdictions that limit their police or sheriffs cooperation with federal immigration authorities in order to protect some illegal immigrants.

I LOVE this picture!!!
Best response EVAH to any Juan Ellis Bush posts.
We need Meshugah Mikie to make his head bob up and down, you know, like the little toy in the back window of Juan’s Chebby.
Oh, and don’t forget the pom-a-poms.
Did he say that in English or Spanish?
What good does calling for ‘local enforcement’ when the Federal govt., which is in charge of protecting the borders, doesn’t enforce its own laws.
Amazing how the Trump impact is hitting the high and mighty!
Indeed, Jeb, or any of the rest of them except Cruz, wouldn't be touching this if Trump hadn't lit the fuse.
I dunno if Trump will make it, but if nothing else, I hope that because of him, the so-called "Sanctuary City" lunacy is defunded or killed in some manner.
Have you seen those tall concrete barriers going up along all the urban interstate highways? Noise barriers have risen along some 1,300 miles of federal highway, and they are being added at the rate of ninety to a hundred miles a year.
They cost about $4 million per mile and have been paid for with Federal funds.
What are these but large impassable walls? We have 1989 miles of border with Mexico. So we could have just about been done with the fence by now, if we were walling off illegals instead of urbanites.
But starting now it would cost $7.95 billion to erect this type of wall across the entire length of the border. We are told this is unaffordable.
What has been spent on Homeland Security to secure our borders since 2001? ~$500 billion.
They'd be even cheaper without the decorations and a little concertina wire on top. Obviously they would still need to be patrolled. And I would place them well back on our side of the border, so that they can be patrolled by us on the side facing Mexican.
The rhetoric versus the record -
It is one thing to SAY “no more sanctuaries”, or that border will be “enforced”, even to the point of appropriating vast amounts of money for these outcomes to be realized. But when the crunch comes, “sanctuaries” do not seem to be subject to any disciplinary action and the boundary wall never gets built or manned in sufficient numbers.
Believe me, the LEGAL immigrants from Mexico who have chosen to become naturalized citizens, and the native-born citizens of Mexican descent, are among the FIRST to condemn the flood of unregulated human traffic swarming over the border, many with mischief in mind. Can’t tell the players without a score card. And a lot of the “players” are trying to pass as “ringers”.
Of course he did...And the rest of the 16 or 20 candidates will also get right on the bandwagon and pretend they were tough on border security all along...
They are all going to move to the 'right' of Trump on the major issues...
I believe him as much as I believed Obama when he told us he supported traditional marriage.
This reminds me of Hillary Clinton trying a Sarah Palin hairstyle when the news was all about Sarah Palin.
Liar.
Trump seems to really believe what he is saying and ignores fashion. I think that is the secret of his success.
When I saw the headline, I thought a satirical piece was being offered.
Great graphic, BTW.
Senor Jeb, lets talk about the discrimination against whites and blacks in Florida who cannot get a job unless they can speak Spanish.
"They'd be even cheaper without the decorations and a little concertina wire on top. Obviously they would still need to be patrolled. And I would place them well back on our side of the border, so that they can be patrolled by us on the side facing Mexican."
Noted leftist hypocrite James Cameron had his own idea for keeping out illegal ALIENS ...
Hell.. we're currently offering Iran $20 BILLION in cash,
gold, and other contingencies if they sign the sham treaty
being offered by the head MUSLIM, Barack "Obozo" Obama.
