Trump defends his sons' sick hobby of killing innocent animals

The killing of a beloved lion named Cecil by a trophy hunting dentist from Minnesota has an outraged American public asking: What kind of monsters would kill a majestic big cat for fun?

Unfortunately for one Republican presidential hopeful, the answer is: his sons.

Donald Trump was forced to weigh in on the issue this week after a gory photo of his trophy hunting sons resurfaced online, tying his family to the very practice that has sparked fierce backlash in recent days. When asked for his response at a press conference in Scotland this week, Trump was reportedly far from condemning of the fact that his sons had a hobby of killing innocent animals, too. "My sons love to hunt," The Telegraph and The Daily Mail report Trump said, though he reportedly refused to directly address shooting endangered animals. "They are members of the NRA, very proudly. I am a big believer in the Second Amendment. But my sons are hunters, Eric is a hunter and I would say he puts it on a par with golf, if not ahead of golf. My other son, Don, is a hunter. They're great marksman, great shots, they love it. I em, like golf. I don't do that."

As benign as he makes it sound, Trump's sons are hardly run-of-the-mill hunters. The family's fortune has apparently been used to fund safaris to Africa, targeting beloved animals like elephants and leopards — hunting trips that can range in the tens of thousands of dollars.

While the senior Trump has stated before that he's not a believer in hunting, his unwillingness to discourage the practice outright given the chance stands in contrast to the reaction of other public figures.

Can I ask you a question? Do you work for a PR firm?

NOPE. Now can I ask YOU a question? What anti-hunting lobby are YOU working for and why don't you post links to the information I requested from you?

Why are you dodging my questions?

Todah for the memories. When I was in Congo the government would pay $50.00 for a dead Lion. There was no shortage. Lions were killing a lot of people, women and children. That’s what they do. Cecil was a hunter. He spent his life killing and eating cute little cuddly and tasty animals. The story here is the fact that the hunter became the hunted. It’s almost like “what goes around comes around.” And besides, “Cecil” does not exist. The fantasy persona that is conjured up by the name is that of a nice harmless, almost delicate demeanor. It’s just silly. This was an animal. A predator. A Killer. He was beautiful, magnificent. But he was not a person.

You are absolutely right. Animals are not people, yet some here elevate animals even above man. It is disheartening to read faux conservatives worshipping the created instead of the Creator.

Baby killing is my litmus test, not lion killing.

I don't trophy hunt, I hunt for food. That said, anything that can kill you back is fair game.

Besides, what Trump's son does is relevant, how?

A parent can't live their kids' lives for them; they make their own choices.

If the lion was poached that is the only crime. Not like it hasn’t happened before or will happen again.

There will never be another media run such as this over a poaching story again unless it’s another rich white male doing the taking.

#F@ckcecilthelion.

“sick hobby” of killing “innocent animals”??? These animals aren’t innocent. They have never built sewage facilities for their waste. Why they just do it anywhere and don’t clean it up. They are eco-criminal reprobates and deserve their end. Where is the EPA on this???

African apex predators may be endangered, but it's not because of trophy hunting. If anything, managed trophy hunting slows the disappearance of these animals.

The visceral hatred some peole have for hunters is purely emotions run amok.

If you asked the average Zimbabwean on the street about the beloved Cecil, you are likely to get either a blank stare or a resounding ‘Who?’. This only seems to be gaining legs as a way to blame a problem on a rich white American.

Good question, he was averaging a post every ten minutes, now thankfully a break from his anti-hunting BS. Good job!

Why are you dodging my questions?

I think we all know the answer to that question.

I am tired of the MSM crap.
Lions are predators. They are not bunny rabbits.

http://edge.org/conversation/lions-africa-39s-magnificent-predators

Male lions really look the part of the “king of beasts”. Their lives are full of violence, exploitation and sex—in other words just like human royalty through much of history. Male lions sleep an average 20 hours per day. The females on the other hand do all of the really hard work—killing the majority of prey, which the males then appropriate for themselves. The main danger males face is fighting off other males that want to take over their pride and territory. This is serious business; most male lions die in such fights. In between territory fights they are bad tempered and terrorize the females in their pride. In short, they have the lifestyle of pimps.

Trump handled himself well - funny how the other side always thinks that if you don't like what someone else does, you should "discourage" it even to the point of killing those who won't cater to their wishes. Trump merely says he isn't a fan and allows that others make their own decisions. He's not slowing down.

Wow, what a surprise!

Try finding a link that explains the difference between poaching and hunting!

No need to, if one doesn't know the difference they can't possess the intelligence to differentiate the knowledge at any rate. They are pure emoters, bereft of sense on the subject, perfect prey for the democrat interest groups who play them like fiddles. From polar bears on a berg, to 'naming' wild animals, to the 'Disneyfication' of nature, they are saps, dupes, fools who have made a deal with the crocodile to eat them last.

God has given me unconditional love for all animals. This is how I understand God’s love for man. I will admit that I am working on my love for man as this is what God wants. It is more difficult but I am making progress.
