Trump towers in fresh poll (almost 30%)

Donald Trump has something new to crow about.

The latest numbers from the Reuters/Ipsos five-day tracking poll has boastful billionaire as the presidential choice of almost 30 percent of Republicans surveyed—a stratospheric mark given the fragmented presidential field.

He’s hitting a new high with the first Republican debate just days away: Aug. 6, in Cleveland, Ohio, where coverage of Trump before, during, and after the contest is likely grow even more feverish given the new numbers.

Trump’s current surge–he’s been gaining strength meteorically all week, according to the poll–has knocked his closest rival, Jeb Bush, back behind him by almost 20 points. Bush sits at 11 percent, with the rest of contenders gasping for air at less than 8 percent.

At a week ago this time, the Reuters/Ipsos poll had Trump at just 15 percent.

Cruz-Palin 2106.

Are you sure that's a Presidential year?

I think the Conservative goal right now should be to keep beating up the Dems and to crush Jeb.

Was that redundant?

Will this poll be one used to keep Cruz out of the debate?

I have no doubt that the GOPe and the left fear Cruz. It wouldn't surprise me if they willfully adjusted the numbers.

Except for who's in the lead, polling is not that important at this point.

After a few debates when more people focusing in on the candidates then I believe Cruz will move up.

Cruz has much more money than most others running. He can afford to survive longer and gain more recognition.

Yes of course Trump is ahead in the polls right now. He’s an expert on self promotion and he provides a lot of entertainment for the media.

Seems to me those are very useful attributes in a political campaign.

You contradict yourself by criticizing Trump's big mouth then use it as a reason "why he's ahead." Make up your mind, is his willingness to speak the truth good or bad for his campaign?

With Hillary basically unopposed and Florida a closed primary state, how many Dems are switching to R to vote for Jeb?

That's a good question. Some might, but there's no particular love of the Bush name among Democrats in Florida. Plus, they'd have to register as Republican to vote; too much trouble for most I expect.

"I am not even sure how they can post this poll...it is complete garbage"

That's what I thought too, until a read a couple of posts up that they came closest to the 2012 outcome.

Cruz has TONS of money and a good organization, how could he be at 1.7%? I think, if we look closely at the numbers, that this wasn’t a Republican poll.

Bingo. We need patience. I think Cruz would be the best candidate to "save" our Republic.

It wouldn't surprise me if the GOPe (evil Karl Rove, etc) are secretly working with insiders at these polling companies to somehow adjust Cruz's numbers to minimize them.

Fox and the rest of the evil GOPe want Cruz at the outer edge of the debate forum.

I bet there is a good chance that Cruz will get minimum time (called last and cut-off in mid-sentence).

I think the number one goal of the evil GOPe is to minimize Cruz's presence in the debate.

The mouth like a sword is double edged weapon.

Yes his big mouth gets him attention. He has great need for attention I’ve noticed.

But it can also sink him.

Cruz will be the best debater on technical terms. Technical terms will be run over by Trump.

Excellent points. Trump will likely dominate the debate -- i.e. get the most press.

What I personally would like to see from Trump and his campaign is a lot less bluster and bombast and a lot more policy and substance which I think is noticeably lacking in the Trump campaign.

Lol, so you already have all of that detailed information from the other 16 candidates?

I haven't read it, but those who have say Trump's book to be reissued Thursday with updates is filled with detailed policy views. He wouldn't be reissuing it if he didn't consider it an important statement of his views.

You and many others are just grasping for some way to drag Trump down, but nothing is working. He's put out more information than the other candidates. It's just that the first of the campaign weeks have been so focused on questions of immigration and Trump himself.

"What did Cruz do that week?"

1. Called Mitch McConnell a liar in the flor of the Senate

2. Call POTUS the leading state sponsor of terrorism in the world.

3. Advocated to defund PP and called them a Criminal Enterprise.

This should have lifted him by a dozen points in our world.

But apparently only Trump can get away with being Trump.

Go in and try using the filters. They're a pain in the neck initially but you'll get the hang of it quickly.

Very interesting info.

For example, filter for White and Republican, Trump gets 32.5%.

Despite what the media want us to think, Trump also has a corner on the college-educated market.

"a lot more policy and substance which I think is noticeably lacking in the Trump campaign"

I totally agree.

Maybe they think they can stay in the "what" mode forever and simply not talk about "how".

That's what Obama did.

It has nothing to do with Ted and everything to do with Don. Cruz supporters are going over to Trump. You can see it right here.

You nailed it. I am first for Cruz but also very enthusiastic for Trump.

Trump is taking it to the evil GOPe and talking about illegal immigration.

Trump is the spear of Conservatives frustration with the evil Left and this Marxist administration.

So, most likely the polls aren't truly reflective of Cruz's support because many Cruz supporters if polled today say Trump, if only to provide an outlet for their frustrations.
