Trump towers in fresh poll (almost 30%)

Donald Trump has something new to crow about.

The latest numbers from the Reuters/Ipsos five-day tracking poll has boastful billionaire as the presidential choice of almost 30 percent of Republicans surveyed—a stratospheric mark given the fragmented presidential field.

He’s hitting a new high with the first Republican debate just days away: Aug. 6, in Cleveland, Ohio, where coverage of Trump before, during, and after the contest is likely grow even more feverish given the new numbers.

Trump’s current surge–he’s been gaining strength meteorically all week, according to the poll–has knocked his closest rival, Jeb Bush, back behind him by almost 20 points. Bush sits at 11 percent, with the rest of contenders gasping for air at less than 8 percent.

At a week ago this time, the Reuters/Ipsos poll had Trump at just 15 percent.

If the “moderate” Republicans allow another lefty moderator, and exclude Cruz—but include the `Rockefeller wing’ candidates, it’s a sham “debate”.

Trump should demand: 1. at least a Republican moderator, if they balk at a conservative, and 2. that Cruz be included.

Otherwise, let the Whigs stew and Trump’s poll numbers will rise even higher.

The poll has Ted Cruz at 1.7%, trailing Fiorina.

Indeed. This looks like a real outlier but if it isn't then it is very bad news for Cruz.

But I think it is an outlier. Cruz is falling like a rock over the last week in this poll. Really? Why?

Very important: If anyone can find a link to the methodology for this poll they should post it. I looked and couldn't find it. It may be that it's not being made available, probably for a good reason.

It is worth noting that RCP is not including it in their Average of Recent Polls. So, IMHO, it unlikely to be included by Fox.

RCP will incorporate this poll in their average tomorrow (I think). What will be interesting is how they incorporate it (i.e. will it be filtered for Republicans only or unfiltered or what).

BTW, when filtered only for very conservative voters, Cruz is at 7.7%.

Peaking early.

His big mouth is his worst enemy.

I don't agree. He absolutely had to prevent Bush from becoming a certain winner in Florida. It appears that strategy is working.

"Cruz is falling like a rock over the last week in this poll. Really? Why?'

Because he's out there talking more. His attack on Mitch was calculated, self serving, and whiny. His wannabe Trump tactics are too little, too late.

Rigged poll in my estimation to stack the deck for the first tier of candidates.

"Peaking early."

If he hadn't, Bush would be dominating the polls. He is the elite's choice. Everything else is just theater.

"His big mouth is his worst enemy."

And what crushed ALL of his opponents.

I remember four ago at about this time we had at least three front runners with similar numbers in the premature polling data.

First it was Rick Perry, then Newt Gingrich, then Herman Cain.

Anyone who places too much stock in these preliminary polls will be disappointed.

I’ve seen this before.

Yes of course Trump is ahead in the polls right now. He’s an expert on self promotion and he provides a lot of entertainment for the media.

Just curious.

With Hillary basically unopposed and Florida a closed primary state, how many Dems are switching to R to vote for Jeb?

And don’t forget he is releasing his book that is the blue print of what he will do on the day of the debates. I would not be surprised if during the debate he refers people to his book for all the details. Man this guy is simply amazing.

Cruz is falling like a rock over the last week in this poll. Really? Why?

Polls have long been a tool not to measure public opinion, but to shape it. Cruz is the real threat to the GOPe. Once the field is cleared for the RINO of choice, Trump will be easy to take down. If Cruz wins the nomination his articulate, principled enthusiasm will result in a bigger loss of power for the GOP inbreeds than even Regan. Cruz is doing the heavy lifting in the senate and is already the biggest threat to McConnell and the establishment. Call me cynical, but I have little doubt that both the questions and the demographic samples in the poll were designed to neutralize Ted Cruz and save the GOPe power base. The FOX is guarding the hen house again.

trump 30%
carson + 7%
= 37% of those polled want nothing to do with a politician

there is a hunger for a real man that is neither lawyer nor politician to run things next time around
