PETA Wants Lion-Hunting Dentist Killed

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) called for the execution of the American dentist who killed Cecil the lion in a statement Tuesday condemning the shooting.

“Hunting is a coward’s pastime,” said PETA President Ingrid Newkirk in the statement. “If, as has been reported, this dentist and his guides lured Cecil out of the park with food so as to shoot him on private property, because shooting him in the park would have been illegal, he needs to be extradited, charged, and, preferably, hanged.”

Walter James Palmer, a U.S. citizen from Minnesota, allegedly paid $50,000 to kill Cecil, a 13-year-old male lion, on a game-hunting trip to Zimbabwe. Palmer has said that he “relied on the expertise of my local professional guides to ensure a legal hunt.”

Hunting is a coward’s pastime,” said PETA President Ingrid Newkirk

No, it's not. PETA is a money-making scam for unscrupulous frauds.

Why is the media pushing a story about alleged violations of Zimbabwe hunting regulations so strongly???

Three days ago, nobody had ever heard of Cecil the lion. Now the media is all over this story. How does the media decide what to.push on us? And is a story about hunting violations in darkest Africa really an important international news story????

Very much agree with you. So called “sport” of killing animals just for fun is incompatible with human decency. Hunting for food or wildlife management is different and honorable.

Hundreds of African children starving to death daily.
White people only care about a lion dying.

“this was a scumbag with a gun.... “

Bow and arrow. I don’t like bow-hunting. Had to put down a wounded doe in my backyard cause a bow-hunting poacher stuck an arrow in her flank, and the infection was awful. That was the end of me allowing bow-hunters on my 110 acre property.

I wish that PETA President Ingrid Newkirk would show as much passion in connection with the murder of millions of babies and selling their body parts!

Instead PETA President Ingrid Newark is calling for the murder of someone who did something she does not like. Is that not what gangsters and Communists do? Democrats are good at name calling.

with adult lion’s life expectancy being around 15 years, cecil the lion wasn’t long for this world. better he be sacrificed and his memory generate millions of donations, than he to rot in the preserve.

this dentist was set up... the government wanted cecil dead... and they issued the permit and located him...

the guy who pulled the trigger was only along for the ride.

‘Hunting is a coward’s pastime,’ said PETA President Ingrid Newkirk.”

Newkirk obviously doesn't understand the concept of wildlife management. It is illegal to discharge a weapon within the boundaries of my small city (except in self defense or at a licensed shooting range), so no game hunting is allowed even in season. As a consequence, we are over-run with deer and many of them are killed on the roads. How is that more humane? In my state, it is illegal to sell, donate, or otherwise give away wild hogs that have been hunted and killed, even if they have been processed and inspected at a state-approved facility. And guess what: certain parts of the state are over-run with destructive feral hogs.

So, what if someone were to want PETA leadership dead? Does that mean a visit by the FBI? I mean, how can PETA call for the death of a man over a hunting dispute (an animal) and the FBI not go to visit them? I don’t understand...

Funny. That's how I feel about PETA people, but we can dispense with the extradition and charges.

There is no doubt in my mind that he knew that what he was doing was poaching, even if he was able to technically skirt the law.

Evidence? Every single report says that it was the guides who lured the lion off the reserve. Palmer had all the permits, had hired a hunting guide that also had all of its licenses. From Palmer's perspective, he bought a tag to kill a lion, hired a guide, hunted on the correct land, took the correct species that was located by his professional and licensed guide. If you have any evidence at all that says that Palmer knew this was illegal, please let me know. Otherwise, what this looks like is a guide that wanted to preserve its reputation and get a return client and was willing to engage in unethical acts to put a shootable lion in front of the client. That makes the client as much a victim as everyone else.

Justice(??) for lions but none for babies?

Kill the dentist and save the baby killers?

The world is upside down.

That's your prerogative, but I rarely hunt with a gun any more precisely because an arrow does not cause anywhere near the same degree of shock to the animal, the animal bleeds out much more quickly, the meat is untainted and more usable, and the kill is more humane overall. I also get a usable hide. With a bow, the deer run about 40 yards and lie down. With a gun they often run over 100 even with a heart / lung shot.

In my experience, gun hunters tend to be more sloppy because they think they have multiple shots. But every time you hear two, three, four shots in succession is a missed or wounded animal. In contrast, every bow hunter knows they have one shot.

But like I said, it's your experience, your land, and your prerogative. Just realize that there are a lot of guys who go into bow hunting because it takes more work and skill and dedication than picking up a gun once a year on opening morning.
