Did I say that right?
I feel bad for Cecil, and I hope the dentist gets his a$$ handed to him in some way. Kill the dentist? Nah.
Both are bad I agree, but let’s put this into perspective. Millions of innocent human babies killed IS worse than one lion killed. But, the government media seems to prefer talking about the lion; a distraction of course.
It’s hard to relate to the millions of innocents that have died from abortions, but if one person or one lion dies, it’s easier to relate to that event because it’s on a small scale. The media is manipulating the public here to blind them to the truly ghastly abortion epidemic but showing great concern for one lion. Don’t fall for the trap my friend.
As Stalin said, one death is a tragedy, a million dead are a statistic.

Your label is wrong: I am a hunter myself, so I do understand a thing or two.
You are saying “the vast majority of sport hunters do not derive pleasure or fun from killing anything.” I agree.
Than “Hunters from the United States, Europe and elsewhere pay a great deal of money to hunt in Africa. To hunt the Big Five...” That is where we diverge. Hunting the Big Five has no utility except trophies and bragging rights - my definition of “killing for fun”. The revenue from such hunts is not an excuse for poorly managed economy of the hosts.
Palmer, the dentist

You’re absolutely right in that the revenue from hunts is no excuse for poorly managed economies. It is, for a variety of reasons, the only means available to those countries to practice some form of wildlife management. In many of those countries - even the few that don’t depend on revenue from high-dollar hunts, the government still conducts cull hunts (particularly elephants and cape buffalo) to balance populations with the carrying capacity of available habitat.
With respect to sport hunting the Big Five, I guess I take a more Libertarian view: it’s legal, it doesn’t have an adverse effect on anyone (being “offended” doesn’t count) and it does have a positive effect on local populations and the economies of the countries in which it’s legal. Although I may find it personally objectionable (I don’t hunt anything that I don’t/won’t/can’t eat), I refuse to criticize those who do so in a legal, sporting manner.
You really believe that?
Yep.
I doubt if the elands, gazelles, water buffalo, monkeys, and baboons and possibly a native or two that the lion made meals of, shed a tear.
Yes, I believe that
The dentist wounded the lion but I haven't seen who actually dispatched it.
In the entire history of the world, no lion that ever existed even approaches the magnificence of the least of men.
