A lawyer and spokesman for current Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump issued a series of vulgar threats to a reporter on Monday, while falsely claiming that it was legal for a husband to rape his wife in New York.
Michael Cohen, special counsel for the Trump Organization, threatened Canadian-American reporter Tim Mak of the Daily Beast with untold legal consequences in response to an article that resurfaced allegations that Trump had raped his then-wife Ivana.
...
The Daily Beast story repeated details of a deposition relayed by a Trump biographer, who described the mogul as forcing himself on his then-wife as revenge for her encouraging him to undergo a painful and unsuccessful scalp reduction surgery in the late 1980s.
...
But Cohen, Trumps lawyer and a spokesman who has helped control his candidates message in maintaining the Republican poll lead over more experienced politicians, went much further than that. According to the Daily Beast, he issued a series of vulgar quotes when questioned by its reporter.
I will make sure that you and I meet one day while were in the courthouse. And I will take you for every penny you still dont have. And I will come after your Daily Beast and everybody else that you possibly know, Cohen told the website. So Im warning you, tread very fucking lightly, because what Im going to do to you is going to be fucking disgusting. You understand me?
...
Youre talking about the front-runner for the GOP, presidential candidate, as well as private individual who never raped anybody. And, of course, understand that by the very definition, you cant rape your spouse, he said.
It is true, Cohen told the Daily Beast. You cannot rape your spouse. And theres very clear case law.

Yawn. Next.
Implosion 6,5,4...
Forget long knives. Go for Scottish Claymores.
The guys legal adviser came out and said you can’t rape your wife.. and you think this wont be a big deal? OK, maybe not to you but as far as politics go.. this isn’t the same as insulting McCain. Todd Akin comes to mind here.
Lord knows I tried....but she always gave in.....LOL.
Yeah yawn.
It’s not even what Donald said. “Donald’s Lawyer” blah blah blah.
I was waiting for the tabloid style attacks.
Now it’s something from 1980s? Raping his wife?
Come on...lol.
That certainly clarifies things. < not >
That this is even talked about is strange, since the woman denies it was a literal or criminal rape.
A) He said it because it’s true. That’s what the law says. Welcome to Reality. (B) This is their try at “Binders full of women” meets “47%” and it won’t work on Trump like it did on Romney. They’re not the same guy. (C) Trump didn’t say anything, his lawyer did. If Todd Akin’s lawyer or CPA had made those comments would you still be talking about them? (D) If Ivanka really felt “raped” why did she keep the man’s last name all these years? Doesn’t that seem odd to you?
I agree... but this response from his lawyer is horrible. It may create more headlines than just the fake rape story.
It’s another hit piece....This was all predicted the night Trump gave his announcement speech. It made all the professional politicos violently recoil.
What kind of optics does it create when a candidates lawyer and spokesperson says a man legally can’t rape his wife... I mean assuming this is the case, its still not something to say in that exact phrasing.
This guy Cohen was on Hannity the other night.
All I can say is wow. He’s a cross between a pitbull, rotweiler, chihuahua, and a pissed off rabid badger.
If I ever got in trouble. I would pray to have this guy as my lawyer.
The fake Trump story isnt the real issue though, this lawyers response is.
Yes this is SARCASM...just so you know... I have never turned down sex from my ex wife...guys just dont do that.
This is such a non issue. They were divorced 23 years ago, and someone is trying to dig up dirt to bring Trump down. Ivana should have shut the door in anyone’s face who even wanted to interview her. I’m sure she is still getting spousal support of some kind, or at least got a nice settlement from her 15 years of being victimized and raped by Donald. Shame on anyone who even bothers to regurgitate this crap, I’m talking to you Meghan kelly. Having said that, I don’t like the language this attorney used. It sounds like they are going to sue if the continue to spread crap like this. But, his language could have been a little more civil. It made me cringe.
The threats will become a story even if the foolish conceptual denial of the possibility of marital rape doesn’t.
