Donald Trump's Not Slowing Down: He's Up Big in New Hampshire, and Close in Iowa
nationaljournal.com ^ | Emily Schultheis

Belittling a longtime senator's military service is usually a good way to end a political campaign. In Donald Trump's case, a new set of polls out from NBC/Marist Sunday morning suggest it's not stopping the business mogul's rapid rise in the GOP field.

In New Hampshire, Trump comes in first with 21 percent; his closest competitor is Jeb Bush, who's at 14 percent. Scott Walker comes in third with 12 percent, then John Kasich at 7 percent, Chris Christie and Ben Carson at 6 percent and Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz at 5 percent.

And in Iowa, where Trump made his now-infamous comments about McCain earlier this month, the business mogul comes in a close second to Walker. Walker takes 19 percent in the poll, compared with Trump at 17 percent. They're followed by Bush (12 percent), Carson (8 percent), Huckabee (7 percent) and Rand Paul (5 percent).

The pair of polls were taken just as Trump was questioning McCain's war hero status at a GOP cattle-call event in Iowa. There, his support actually rose (within the margin-of-error) after he made the comments: he was getting 16 percent in the interviews conducted beforehand, compared with 18 percent in the ones done after. (The comments do seem to have hurt him in New Hampshire, though not enough to take him out of first place: he was getting 26 percent in the interviews before his McCain comments, compared with 14 percent afterward.)

Cruz’s support is in the Red States, no IA or NH.

All Nukes as weapon systems or ship power plants should be a Department of War function.

He is higher in the polls...

There is a reason his number are low...just look at who is ahead of him...there is no way.

Remember, polls drive opinion...the Left FEARS Cruz and for good reason.

Let’s be honest. He’s a boob.

A boob is a foolish or stupid person.

Trump neither foolish nor stupid.

He is however kind of tacky in a Queens NY way.

What I am seeing and hearing is that folks are actually finding this colloquial quality refreshing.

Also, while Trumpers, etc, cite these polls, remember a few things...

First, it is still early. Donald will flame out when his side show gets old. I could be wrong, but we will see.

Second, polls are meaningless this far out...look at past elections. BTW, the polls had Romney as President.

Third, what people REFUSE to look at is the internals of the polling. VERY FEW actual VOTING Republicans are polled...most are registered voters, adult voters, etc. This isn’t indicative of the electorate.

He has some baggage. Some of it BS I am sure, but he can expose the GOP for doing nothing regarding ISIS and Iran, as well as the destruction of the military. Perhaps not VP, but he should do some more talking.

Of course things could change.

Polls are just a snapshot in time.

LOL...the idea that Trump is a plant for Hillary is getting a bit long in the tooth now. The next thing we’ll hear is that Trump’s job, as instructed by the Democrats, was ACTUALLY to drive Hillary out of the race, so that a cleaner candidate could replace her.

Really? Trump is a businessman. Hillary is a corrupt politician with a good possibility of winning the Presidency.

The devil can cite scripture for his purpose.

I do not believe that should be addressed, until he’s won and cabinet installed... then start housecleaning. There is a LOT of infiltration all through the agencies and not just at the top levels.

Including the chap who lied about having both UGrad and Grad degree, who came in as some sort of Asst Director of Data Management. Can’t recall the agency, but when a Grad student of the same university sniffed out the deception and put in a couple of calls, he left... Only to be hired a year later by the Census department.

Can’t imagine that position didn’t require a pretty high clearance. How the heck did he get it? Or was he one of those magical placements?

Hey, Liz, did you know when he received the boos? When he said something about Israel, then followed up with this:

“In 1948, Jews throughout the Middle East faced murder and extermination and fled to the nation of Israel. And today, Christians have no greater ally than the Jewish state. [mixed applause, boos, “come on”] Let me say this, those who hate Israel, hates America. And those who hate Jews, hate Christians. And if this room will not recognize that, then my heart weeps, that the men and women here will not stand in solidarity with Jews and Christians alike who are persecuted by radicals [applause] who seek to — [applause]. If you hate the Jewish people you are not reflecting the teachings of Christ [applause]. And the very same people who persecute and murder Christians right now, who crucify Christians and behead Children are the very same people who target and murder Jews for their faith for the very same reason.”

I do not pretend to know all the ins and outs and do understand some ME Christians aren’t too fond of Israel. However, to me, it doesn’t look good for those concerned about the plight of Christians (who are darned near wiped out) while at the same time, booing a statement about Jewish persecution during the Holocaust.

Kasich NH results... could they perhaps have to do w/ NE R’s preferring him to Walker or Jeb!? (Don’t see Rubio gaining any traction) Kasich did work on Wall Street for a while and older people, if NH has a good sized retirement population, will remember him from the good old days. He also has been wrapping himself in the Reagan mantle. Meese hit back w/ some of Kasich’s claims:
