Socialist Bernie Sanders DEMANDS $15 minimum wage – PAYS interns $12 an hour! LOL!

And in today’s edition of “look at this hypocritical liberal,” we have Bernie Sanders, the grump socialist, who demands that everyone in America pay their employees at least $15 no matter what their wages are actually worth in the free market. Now let’s see what he pays his interns!

From MRC-TV:

Included in the 62 million workers making under $15 hour are members of Bernie Sanders’ own staff. According to the senators’ website, Interns are paid only $12 an hour.

In [Bernie’s] bill’s summary, the first bullet point reads, “No one working full time should be in poverty. It is time to pay workers a living wage of at least $15 an hour.”

this would lead to less profitable endeavors having a lower minimum wage while anything that is highly profitable having to pay more......having a fixed minimum wage is extremely bad for the poor because periodically someone gets the bright idea to raise the minume wage thinking they are helping the poor.

How about no minimum wage, instead?

Each business offers what it can afford.

Each employee works for what he's willing to accept.

So, I guess for my fatm, if I have an exceptional crop this year and make a once in a decade exceptional income, I have to pay my workers more next year while I barely scrape by (which then throws me into bankruptcy)? How does that make sense?

what I gave was a very simplified version of what a static minimum wage would be.......the nuances of this would have to be worked on.

The frightening number of people in my generation that support this man doesn’t give me a warm feeling about my future.

The bennies and opportunities for meaningful employment after their internship are head and shoulders above most $15/hr private sector jobs I would think.

Considering the whole picture, $12/hr can be considered food money while learning the crony capitalism ropes, which can yield literally a fortune down the road.

Still, it does seem hypocritical.

Ever since The hopey-changey-free-cell-phone crowd stole their first federal election they have used the bull horn of the bully pulpit to corral and scare the masses.

“Oh, but this is DIFFERENT! The intern jobs have value that makes up for the low wage because they give the worker experience they would not otherwise be able to get...”

As if any minimum wage job is meant to be anything else.

I believe I read somewhere that that HRC pays interns nothing; their pay is the privilege of “being in her presence”.

Not if people refused to work for such wages.

But, if they did accept such wages, they are presumably satisfied by them.

No wage law is needed. Let everybody find their own market for their labor and for their workkplace.

Interns are always underpaid, if at all. THey benefit from the experience.

Of course, Dems never apply that reasoning to what should be a workforce entry-level job—burger flipping. That’s because the constituency affected by this is largely not of entry-level age, and will never be qualified for a more sophisticated job.

In the long run, raising minimum wage (and raising the welfare floor) will create increased automation and also wage-push inflation. After all, if a burger-flipper is worth $15, what’s a union member worth?

I think the time she has spent in the 3rd world as well as much of Asia has made her somewhat cynical in a practical way. If that makes any sense.

The poverty and the knowledge of the slaughter that has taken place in South American in my travels and even in my lifetime have left me cynical of living elsewhere. However given the left's attachment to dismembering babies for their organs, that door may be open again.

if you were desperate you would work for slave wages. if I was desperate I would to. there are a lot of people that are user and will take advantage of desprat situations. all you have to do is look at what happens in sweat shops and in third world countries, when there is no prorection in the work place.

You are correct. People who are desperate will work for slave wages. And there are people who will take advantage of such a situation.

And, in that case, both benefit! The employee gets the wage they were desperate for, the employer gets the cheap labor they were doubtless desperate for.

Be aware that your "sweat shops in third world countries" are often the only employment available. And, when they have been closed down by well-meaning first world liberals in the past, the people who lost their jobs starved.

Unintended consequences are a bitch...to the people who have to experience them.

the biggest problem with life is unattended consequences. the biggest problem with liberalism is that they have ideas that sound great but just don’t work and have some very horrible unattended consequences when they are implemented. I have a big problem with the concept of a minimum wage the way the democrats want to do it but I still feel that there should be some wage laws to prevent abuse of the have not’s from those that have.
