You are correct. People who are desperate will work for slave wages. And there are people who will take advantage of such a situation.
And, in that case, both benefit! The employee gets the wage they were desperate for, the employer gets the cheap labor they were doubtless desperate for.
Be aware that your "sweat shops in third world countries" are often the only employment available. And, when they have been closed down by well-meaning first world liberals in the past, the people who lost their jobs starved.

the biggest problem with life is unattended consequences. the biggest problem with liberalism is that they have ideas that sound great but just don’t work and have some very horrible unattended consequences when they are implemented.
