Bush’s people did more than “go along” with the loans-for-unqualified homebuyers schemes. They actively promoted the policy. Rove saw it as a way to expand the Republican base. Bush SIGNED a law that had the federal government paying the down-payments for people who couldn’t afford to buy homes on their own. And he BRAGGED about that law:

One thing Trump is willing to say that other GOP candidates won’t admit publicly: Bush was not a good president. Most Americans believe that, so the GOP will have a hard time until it stops evading that fact.
After what we’ve seen in the lack of integrity in Mitch McConnells running of the Senate (just like Reid), are you so sure that Trump is wrong? There is enough blame to go around in both political parties that make up the Washington Cartel.
THANKS! I had forgotten that. There was some sick theory that if a person (or family) “owned” their home, they would instantly become MUCH MORE RESPONSIBLE citizens.
Like you, I remember saying “huh” and cringing at that theory. It made NO SENSE, in part because they were never going to “own” their home anyway - they’d just replace rent with mortgage payments.
I agree, Bush was a DISASTER in many, many, areas (although he was a very nice guy in person) and it’s good to see Trump making that point.
I agree with you. In my old age, the last few candidates the GOP have run are so bad that I can no longer bring myself to vote for them, so last election I decided from that point forward, I was going to look at the entire slate of presidential candidates and vote for the best one, the one that I think that our King, Almighty God, would want as President of His country. Down ticket, I vote for Republican with very few exceptions at the local level.
If you don’t think the GOP - or the Bush administration - shared blame for the 2008 crash, do a little more research and reading. Here’s George Bush, from 2003, boasting about signing a home “affordability” law that helped lead directly to the Crash of 2008:
“Last year I set a goal to add 5.5 million new minority homeowners in America by the end of the decade. That is an attainable goal; that is an essential goal. And we’re making progress toward that goal. In the past 18 months, more than 1 million minority families have become homeowners. (Applause.) And there’s more that we can do to achieve the goal. Many people are able to afford a monthly mortgage payment, but are unable to make the down payment. So this legislation will authorize $200 million per year in down payment assistance to at least 40,000 low-income families. traditional lending standards evolved due to experience and reality: people who don’t have skin in the game - i e a down payment - are credit risks.
Bush pooh-poohed that, and advocated having government step in and cover the down payment for people who couldn’t qualify under traditional lending standards.
Unfortunately, I believe this is happening again, both from the feds and various state governments. Politicians can’t stop buying votes with tax money - it’s in their DNA, and not just Democrat politicians, either.

Katrina piled some fuel on that fire. Before the hurricane hit a local newsman was doing research on the HUD abuse in the 9th, the high rents, unavailable loans for most. All the corruption involved the political family of the man who started HUD in the Carter adm.
All that information was moot when area was flooded. I remember cheering when Bush/gop passed the legislation enabling these victimized people (many with middle class income) would be able to bypass the real estate cartel and buy their own home. Unfortunately as the democrats usually do they manipulated around the intent of the law. That family’s name LANDRAU CORRUPT TO THE BONE
I definitely think the Bush administration shared the blame. But Trump seems to think the Democrats were blameless, which is outrageously wrong.

Well if Trump keeps highlighting all the hot button issues and stays out of the weeds he could very well get the nomination. We and our whole family on both sides are pretty much ready to vote for him. We need a drastic change.
Looks like the race will come down to those who have done things and not all talk, Trump and Walker.
If he wants to keep the IRS and the current tax code he isn’t conservative enough for me.

He has been all over the board on this issue...it shows the mentality of Trump.
A man of integrity would run as a Republican to BEAT the establishment, not run Third Party or toy with the idea to help elect Hillary.
Just being honest, Trump has no reason to want to be vice president. He’s almost 70, the campaign would be with his money, and he’s a bit convinced of his own leadership abilities.
I can, however, see a junior senator from Texas accepting a VP position, though, as a launching pad for the future. JMHO.
