Republican Donors to Walker, Rubio and Bush: Boycott the Debate if Trump Participates
PJ Media ^ | 07-23-2015 | Michael van der Galien

The Republican Party’s donors have a brand new idea: let’s boycott those we disagree with! Will they never learn?

...

This means that those other candidates and the Republican Party’s leadership have to be smart about the way they deal with Trump. The best strategy is to … take him seriously. Yes, even when he’s bullying everybody else and saying outrageous things about them.

You see, Trump’s current popularity isn’t about him, but about conservative anger. Conservative voters are pissed beyond measure: they feel ignored by their party, they believe amnesty for illegal aliens is all but a done deal, and they’re angrier than heck about it. Who can blame them? I know I don’t.

Instead of vilifying Trump, other Republicans have to make clear that they understand conservatives’ anger and concerns. They have to start talking about the issues he has raised — illegal immigration and the crime related to it, first and foremost. That’s why I was glad to see that Senator Ted Cruz did exactly that:

Great, but — sadly — a large part of the GOP’s donor class and establishment don’t quite understand this:

Many national Republican officials are increasingly resigned to Mr. Trump’s looming presence. At a meeting of the Republican Governors Association this week in Aspen, Colo., donors and operatives mused about how to prevent him from hijacking the debate.

Turnabout is fair play. If any boycotting candidate wins the nomination, we boycott the election. How can we vote for someone who refuses to debate his rivals ?

The irony is that Trump is himself a "big donor." It's just that he's donating to his own campaign. None of these other "big donors" has the nerve to run themselves, they have to hide behind other people.

So it's really a fight between the big donors themselves. But it also shows the other candidates to be puppets of secret behind-the-scenes people. Who wants to vote for a puppet after the puppets out themselves by boycotting the debate as a temper tantrum?

He (Walker) lost me with all that talk of MR being his VP.

Huh.....all that talk????? there is a year until the election and you would cast aside our best hope because of "all that talk" ?????

No wonder that Obama is president.

I agree that Walker loses his outsider status if he boycotts because donors said so. It would show that he's become beholden.

"Morons! Do that and you guarantee that the next President will be a Dem, that the next 3-4 Supreme Court Justices will be appointed by America-hating radicals, that we’ll be guaranteed to go off the rails at high speed."

Remind me again who Bush put on the Supreme Court.

That would pretty much finish them off.

It would demonstrate to all what wusses and crybabies they are.

Members of the Party of Stupid are just that. Don’t these 3 [and probably more] realize: if they boycott, Trump gets MORE airtime? Especially, if he and Cruz are the only 2 who show.

I wish Bush and Rubio would boycott. But I think Walker is too smart to boycott. The end result would really hurt the campaigns of Bush and Rubio, which I think is a great idea.

Go ahead, obey your corporate overlords. Show us who you really think your constituents are.

Rubio and Jeb! won’t be missed.

Thank you Mr. Perot, for your insight...it really screwed things up the last time we tried it.

While Perot probably handed the election to Clinton, he also did one other thing -- he proved once and for all that a 3rd party candidate can win the presidency. Prior to dropping out, he had at least a 1 in 3 chance of winning, and in all likelihood, his chances were far higher than that. Contrary to conventional wisdom, his candidacy did not prove that a 3rd party candidate cannot win, but rather the opposite.

Nonsense...Walker is losing nothing...he is, in fact gaining in most polls and in the minds of American voters.

Does Walker have the money and infrastructure to win Florida? If the answer is no, then he has little chance of winning the nomination.

They are scared he will make them look foolish.
They're too stupid to know he already has... and they did it to themselves.

Seems like a real bad idea, I wonder if this was leaked to the press or some secret source because this is a bad news story to the GOP, you have to be open.

Candidates can’t give up that airtime, even choir boy Rubio should see through this. Someone let the cat out of the bag, so, really, they can’t do something like this. Why go to the front runners? What if they asked Perry or the like to do this? Dumb idea.
