Republican insiders are reconciling themselves to the idea that Donald Trump wont be exiting the stage anytime soon and their main concern now is limiting his damage to their party.
The GOP establishment is almost universally hostile to Trump, who has soared in the 2016 polls on the back of his celebrity, his outspoken statements on immigration and trade deals, and media coverage of his antics.
Many party strategists believe Trump did himself serious damage with his recent remarks denigrating Sen. John McCains (R-Ariz.) experiences while a prisoner of war in Hanoi, Vietnam but there is not yet conclusive polling evidence available.
Meanwhile, Trump has made clear that he has no serious intention of reining in his rhetoric or curbing his propensity to tweak the nose of anyone who displeases him. On Tuesday, shortly after fellow White House contender Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) had referred to the businessman as a jackass, Trump read out Grahams cellphone number on live television during a campaign event in the senators home state.
During that appearance, Trump also called Graham a stiff and an "idiot, and took shots at another critic and 2016 hopeful, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, saying hed begun wearing glasses to make himself look smarter.

Well..hmm..right now he's only getting coverage because the mainstream media keeps thinking that when he fights back against the insults of the gope that he's somehow hurting conservatives. So they're giving it lots and lots of coverage. And the gope candidates are trying to get coverage so they're continuing to insult him.
If he ONLY attacked the media darlings then they would not cover him. As it is now he's making news big time and still getting in some licks against Clinton. And I don't think he's just appealing to republicans right now either....
I was wondering about that...if he started slapping the democrats, that would be swell.
I forgot all about that. And... I must admit that I thought at the time Trump gave the money as a PR stunt. Turns out Trump just gave the kid the money to do the right thing.
Donald Trump drowning out all the Republican, Democratic candidates?

Good analysis @ link above
July polls don't win February elections.
The way I see it, let’s get rid of the GOPe first, then we’ll work on Donald.
Pretty good technique, but the five o’clock shadow doesn’t work for me. :/
Like Rush says, never eat in front of a camera.
I am a Vietnam War era veteran and Trump didn't offend my sensibilities when he said what he did about McPain. This notion in this politically correct society today that if someone says something that might be disparaging to the person the statement is directed to, is somehow indicative or reflective of everybody in a broad category of people being disparaged, is baloney. He didn't hurt my feelings any as a veteran.
Trump may not be the most politically correct speaker on the stump but what I like about him is that he is not always turning around and apologizing for something he says because some liberal or RINO or TV talking head insists that he does so. Seriously, I am in the Jethro Gibbs (NCIS) camp of, "Saying you're sorry is a sign of weakness". I may regret things that I say or do from time to time and try to do better in the future, but I dislike people who go around saying they're sorry for anything and everything all the time, including stuff they have nothing to do with. One of my pet peeves.
McLame has shown himself to be a weak legislator and not even a very good foreign policy expert. And he was the most God-awful GOP candidate for president I have seen in my lifetime. Absolutely weak and worthless. The only bright spot in his campaign was Sarah Palin and even then, he muzzled her. He's not a leader in my book and deserving of more criticism than he gets in the media.
Yes, I think that Trump will get rid of the small e at the end of the GOP, and restore the GOP to the Grand Old Party! It is refreshing to hear someone tell it like it is for a change.
Mike Savage and other conservative talk radio hosts for years have been saying that candidates who stick to their principles often win, in spite of what the corrupt press and others say, including polls.
The GOPe is nothing more than Democrat lite, and loses 100% of the time to a blithering blathering 100% Democrat, like taking candy from a baby.
The gope is making a joke of us so lets return it back to them
You know what folks? It just dawned on me as I was reading this article; Donald Trump’s style reminds me of George Wallace, who had the same style in 1968. I remember him calling all politicians in D.C. “Pointy-headed Bureaucrats who had nothing but peanut butter sandwiches in their briefcases.” That’s just one example. Many people still believe that had he not been shot, and confined to a wheel chair for life, that he would have been elected President of the United States.
