Republican insiders are reconciling themselves to the idea that Donald Trump won’t be exiting the stage anytime soon — and their main concern now is limiting his damage to their party.
The GOP establishment is almost universally hostile to Trump, who has soared in the 2016 polls on the back of his celebrity, his outspoken statements on immigration and trade deals, and media coverage of his antics.
Many party strategists believe Trump did himself serious damage with his recent remarks denigrating Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) experiences while a prisoner of war in Hanoi, Vietnam — but there is not yet conclusive polling evidence available.
Meanwhile, Trump has made clear that he has no serious intention of reining in his rhetoric — or curbing his propensity to tweak the nose of anyone who displeases him. On Tuesday, shortly after fellow White House contender Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) had referred to the businessman as a “jackass,” Trump read out Graham’s cellphone number on live television during a campaign event in the senator’s home state.
During that appearance, Trump also called Graham “a stiff” and an "idiot,” and took shots at another critic and 2016 hopeful, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, saying he’d begun wearing glasses to make himself look smarter.

Until they stop playing Mr. Nice Guy and treating Hillary like a legitimate candidate instead of calling her out on her corruption, they will finish last this time. If they don’t learn a lesson from Trump they will lose yet again.
The GOP doesn’t like that Trump is succeeding with a dialogue THEY are supposed to articulate and which they have rejected, instead.

While I would not have given out Senator Graham's cell phone number, Lindsey has been hurling vile insults at those of us who disagree with his open border & amnesty policies, for most of a decade. He deserves to be taken apart. Here was my response to the light-weight toady in 2006: Open Letter To Lindsey Graham.
Really? He calls himself a woman, but doesn’t have the balls to actually cut them off. And even if he did, it wouldn’t change the fact that he has that “Y” chromosome bit.
A clarification, please. Keep in mind that The Donald is a POPULIST who is currently engaging conservative principles, not a conservative by nature. There are populists of all flavors (Bernie Sanders is an excellent example of a “populist of the socialist left”), but they are NOT noted for their fidelity to one set of principles to the diminishment of all others, and these populists have been known to switch on a moment’s notice.
There is a keg of dynamite with a lit fuse rolling about on the decks of the ship now, and it is up to the ship’s captain to determine how to deal with it. Worst case, the fuse continues to sputter out to its end, and ignites the powder keg, destroying, perhaps mortally, the part of the ship it is nearest to, including overboard.
There is almost zero chance of defusing the keg, but it CAN be used as a sort of torpedo toward a nearby ship engaged in bombardment exchanges, by launching it overboard, lobbing it in the air in the other ship’s direction.
Naval battles can be very spectacular.
Get The Donald to direct fire at Herself, Madame Benghazi, the Cold & Joyless, and this will provide ample cover to assure the OTHER ship gets scuttled first. But let him think it was his idea all the while.
If it comes down to a selection between Jeb Bush and The Donald, for the Republican nominee, I would play the Trump card every time. The Donald would go for the victory over Herself, while Jeb, he would pull his punches like Romney did in 2012 and McCain did in 2008.

...... Anything less than that will be easily controlled by the Left and it's Magical Media Machine. The media and the Left will only give their stamp of approval to the GOP candidates that they believe will be the easiest to control.

The march toward socialism is nearly complete in America and the Socialists need a viable left leaning typical, easily controlled president to hold the water for them should the Democrat Party lose this election. They will demand a typical GOPe drone to maintain the Status Quo until they can regain control at a later date.

Why do these brainstems think a popular Trump candidacy is even possible? 8 years ago he would've been a sideshow - today Trump seems to many like a last best hope.

Now here comes Trump. Always outspoken, and beholden to no one and the "established GOP" can't control him. He calls a spade, a spade, tackling issues head-on that others tip-toe around and it's struck a chord among us peasants.
I would not be at all surprised that even if Trump looks like he is going to run away with the nomination, that the GOP-e puts some rule in place that prevents him from becoming the nominee.

You got it exactly right.
An exchange of insults--like pre-adolescent confrontations in a playground--is not an issue for anyone really serious about an American future, to get upset over. That the Journal would seek to focus attention on that exchange--and draw moral conclusions from that exchange, antagonistic to those who have the sense not to comment on that exchange--is to take journalistic absurdity into the clouds of really confused analysis.
Let me suggest that the Journal focus on something that concerns the U.S. Military, that is 1,000 times as important as Trump returning John McCain's insult, with one of his own. What is that?
In recent weeks and months there have been repeated threats from America haters, against our military personnel & their families. Yet the Administration still has Marines & others, serving as potential targets in "gun free zones." Does anyone reading this not believe that that is the sort of outrage that the Journal ought to be concerned with--not an exchange of insults?
Will anyone defend the mental priorities of the Journal staff, in this situation? They, not Senator Cruz, who has a sense of proportion, need to be the butt of condemnation & ridicule.
Of course, the failure to protect our service men is a direct result of Obama's indifference to the well being of the military, which he has shown in every way possible.

Why not? After all... “O” has set a precedent for ‘making it up as you go along’, so you can leapfrog inconvenient, legitimate impediments and outright ignore the law!
