Moderator Frank Luntz asked Trump whether he has ever asked God for forgiveness for his actions.
"I am not sure I have. I just go on and try to do a better job from there. I don't think so, he said. ... I don't bring God into that picture."
Trump said that while he hasn't asked God for forgiveness, he does participate in Holy Communion.
"When I drink my little wine - which is about the only wine I drink - and have my little cracker, I guess that is a form of asking for forgiveness, and I do that as often as possible because I feel cleansed," he said. "I think in terms of 'lets go on and let's make it right.'"

Sounds more like Catholic bashing. JimRob warned us all about that just yesterday.
Got a grip thanks. Don’t need another one. Mine works great.
I make an effort. Probably could do much better though.
Oh...I forgot...you are sensitive.
If you want to vote for a practicing conservative Christian, Trump is not your boy.
Well, I’m Catholic and what he said has zero effect on me, my support for him or lack thereof
We are not a theocracy and I’m going to say this one time
Catholics and the Catholic Church simply do not strive to convert people, not the country not politicians not even the homosexual lobby
The Catholic Church exists in peace regarding our Constitution and the constitution has never not ever had any single threat from the Catholic Church proper
You are not an American who represents obamas tactics when you travel overseas and you don’t like it when people go over there presenting America as anything other than a constitutional republic
In the same way, people who say they are Catholic can say anything they want to but here on the free republic forum I must endure NO END of harassment over what is said and over what is wrongly erceived to be Catholic
Donald trump is not catholic if he says a little cracker then the Catholics and the Catholic Church has zero to say about it because we are
NOT in the business of trying to elect Catholics, NOT in the business of trying to convert elected officials NOR are Catholics in the business of telling or in any way instructing other religions to change
Nor do we think trump is evil or even wrong for considering communion a cracker
So get this
If you have anything else to say about THE CATHOLIC CHURCHs DESIRES then look it UP in the CATECHISM and get one IOTA informed about what it is you are talking about/BASHING
Fine. I was ridiculing Trump if you happened to read the article. He made light of Holy Communion. I thank you for your concern in advance. R/Janey
Damn good looking too.
Only God knows what’s really in the man’s heart.
So far he is the only one(that I know of) who dared to say anything about how ,Christians both here and abroad are treated.
If his heart is true and he really does want to make things right for himself for America whatever....
if it lines up with God’s plan there will be no stopping him.
God has a history of using the unlikeliest people to do His bidding. It is written.
Yes, it is very early, but I seem to be already burnt out.
In thread after thread where several people have talked about various candidates, people deflect threads with attacks on the media, but it doesn’t matter if it is a conservative outlet that takes issue with something and reports on it.
Or they attack the messenger, or use Red Herring and turn the discussion onto Frank Luntz (this thread) or onto someone else (like Luntz) who asks a candidate a question. And on and on it goes...
It gets old after a while.
The Bible clearly states that leaders should be God fearing not confessing ones sins and asking God for forgiveness is not the sign of a God fearing man. I have sinned and I have confessed my sins to God and asked his forgivenes and ask for him to send me the strenght through the Holy Spirit to help me not to commit the sin again. To me NOT asking God for forgivenes is the same thing as saying you don’t need it. I am a PROUD Christian and I am certianly not so stiff necked that I do not when need be get down on my knees and ask for the forgiveness that only God can give.
We’ll be sarcastic about something you know something about and leave the CATHOLIC CHURCH out of it for just one blessed day
There’s truth in humor Check my post history and responses
There is zero not a modicum of truth to the idea that the CATHOLICs care if a Presbyterian runs for office or follows or doesn’t follow his faith. We don’t care that trump doesn’t consider the cracker to be the Body of Christ
Enough
Yes. It is an inappropriate question, unless all the candidates are being questioned in the same way - and that shouldn’t happen, as there’s not a litmus test for religion. The question assumes Trump is sinful and requires forgiveness. (Of course, we’re all in this situation, but that’s a topic for a different day.) This is a question for Republican candidates only.
I guess you don’t take the Eucharist that seriously...
Bashing?
Hot Air is the one who ran this piece on their website. You think they are bashing? Wow.
I remember that. At the time I was posting on a forum full of liberals who thought it was just fine.
Trump’s beliefs about religion do not make him either a Leftist or a Conservative.
Hot Air running with the story does cause me to question why they would report on this. What was their objective?
Did they take Luntz to task for asking this question, or did they think it revealed something sinister about Trump? Or did they think that people reading it would see it as sinister?
The media generally does things for purpose.
Is this a critical think people need to know about Trump, before they can consider him presidential?
Luntz is notorious for playing gotcha politics with people and beliefs on the right.
Straw Man argument.
I doubt that some or most Catholics will consider his choice of words to be him just not believing the “little cracker” to be the body of Christ.
because its my understanding you need to ask God for forgiveness
. . . . .
I would say that is what Christ taught.
Luke 11:1-4
This is my point exactly. Only Jesus knows his heart, and so far, Trump is the only one I’ve heard crying out against the Christians who are being persecuted around the world. I don’t care what or how Trump takes communion. That is between him and our Lord. I just don’t think he was comfortable talking about his faith so openly. As long as he believes in his heart - then that is - like I said - between him and God.
