It’s not Dixie’s fault
The Washington Post ^ | July 17,2015 | Thomas J. Sugrue

Posted on 07/20/2015 8:02:32 AM PDT by Hojczyk

Education remains separate and unequal nearly everywhere in the United States, but Confederate-flag-waving Southerners aren’t responsible for the most racially divided schools.

That title goes to New York, where 64 percent of black students attend schools with few, if any, white students, according to a recent report by the Civil Rights Project. In fact, the Northeast is the only region where the percentage of black students in extremely segregated schools — those where at least 90 percent of students are minorities — is higher than it was in the 1960s.

Schools in the South, on the other hand, saw the segregation of black students drop 56 percent between 1968 and 2011.

It’s reassuring for Northerners to think that the country’s problems are rooted down South. But pointing our fingers at Dixie — and, by implication, reinforcing the myth of Northern innocence — comes at a cost. As federal troops and Supreme Court decisions forced social change in the states of the old Confederacy during the 20th century, injustices in the North were allowed to fester.

That trend continues, as Northerners seek to absolve themselves of responsibility for their own sins by holding aloft an outdated and inaccurate caricature of a socially stunted South. In 1960, Martin Luther King Jr. said: “Another group with a vital role to play in the struggle for racial justice and equality is the white northern liberals.

The racial issue that we confront in America is not a sectional but a national problem.” That holds true for most of America’s troubles today. Enough finger-wagging at Dixie. Change begins at home.

It’s not just New York. Same in Detroit as well as most large inner city areas of the Northeast. They want it that way...no whities in their hood!

There’s nothing like a town where the cheapest house is $1 million, and all the land is already built on. Welcome to the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut!

I don’t get the cachet of going to school with whites. I know for a fact that blacks can have outstanding schools. Sheesh.

Yankees are the most arrogant and racist people in the country. Part of their arrogance is pretending that southern folk are more racist than they are. They’ll break out the Selma, AL tape when it suits their delusions, but you will never get honesty about their ghettoes!

From my observations blacks seem to segregate themselves.

I work in Topeka....home of the famous Brown vs Board of Education case.

The schools are extremely segregated, as are the neighborhoods in general.

But a lot of people here looks down their noses at the south.

Blacks were learning just fine before ….Democrat run cities decided to take over education and put in there friends as teachers and then they got LBJ welfare and the family disappeared…hell when I grew up everyone was segregated..every ethnic had there own part of town…the parents hated each other but we all went to the same schools and played on the same teams..the kids got alone fine for the most part…probably the most hate group at the time were the jewish kids…they had more money than the rest of us..

Too late. It's gone past finger wagging now.

It’s about to REALLY suck being in the Northeast...high tax rates, unfunded legacy pension costs and now Obummer’s Super Secret Race Computer will be spitting out zip codes north of the Mason-Dixon line long before its database cranks out 29572?

That’s my view also : Blacks want whites to stay out of black neighborhoods. A white woman and her two small children were attacked for driving down a main street in a black neighborhood. As for the lack of good schools, I don’t believe it. In a large city the schools are run by a central authority that parcels out teachers as they are hired. Could it be something as simple as the free ride some people get in college that results in a lack of skills when it comes to teaching, and goes back to that first sentence I wrote?

Furthermore, look at Europe. All the countries have different languages, food, culture, music and features that are easily discernible, and they want it that way! It’s called “nationality”

In my youth, the era of segregated schools, black educators were a special class.
You could see it in the way they dressed and the way they spoke.
They were an inspiration to all blacks in the community.

They demanded their students learn proper spelling, pronunciation and good handwriting.

They did this in schools that were not as well provided for as the white schools. Fewer library resources, no science lab, second hand text books and few, if any, accommodations for athletics.
They produced good students who *learned*.

Black “educators” today demand nothing of future value of their students.
They instead promote a group think victim ideology that leaves the young black person with no skills, not even the concept of *how* to learn.

This is just my opinion, of course.

I agree that blacks were able to learn when they had intact families. I went to school with blacks in a small town in Illinois. They all had normal families, a father who worked and a mother who stayed home. They all graduated from high school and most went on to college, and by the way, I saw them at the reunions year after year.

I had the same experience. I worked as a volunteer for a time at the Community Country Day School in Erie, PA, founded by a tremendously great soul, Mary Beth Kennedy. A black woman and a convinced, intelligent Christian, she founded this school for kids were basically run-aways and throw-aways from the public school system. The school was overwhelmingly black.

With very few physical-financial resources, she and her teachers challenged them, inspired them, prayed for them, didn't take any s*** from them, insisted that they dress right, walk right, talk right, fear God and respect themselves and each other. She demanded the best from them, and, by God, they gave it.

It's the most bracing, cheering in the world to see that happen. The black educator --- Mother Kennedy style --- was like the Glory of God on earth.

Yankees are the most arrogant and racist people in the country.

Let me modify that a bit: Northern blacks are among the most racist people in the world.

When I've been in the South, although there are black ferals and white bigots, I've observed that most blacks and whites are generally more cordial and less suspicious of each other than in the North.
