A 48-year-year old off-duty black federal police officer is still alive after being shot by Seaside Police officers early Friday morning.

Just before 1:30am, officers responded to a call reporting a loud, drunk woman at a house in the 1100 block of Amador Avenue, according to a statement by the Seaside Police Department. Officers gave her a courtesy ride back to her house in the 1200 block of Palm Avenue.

As officers were helping the woman to her door, her husband stepped outside with a gun and officers shot at him. He is Eric Glazier, a federal police lieutenant since 1997 at Naval Support Activity Monterey, the base where Naval Postgraduate School is located.

Seaside police asked District Attorney Dean Flippo to investigate the shooting, as is the SSPD's custom in officer-involved shootings. Flippo agreed, and his investigators arrived on the scene at about 2:30am.

Flippo spoke with members of the media Friday afternoon, but few details are being released at this time.

"He displayed a gun," Flippo said. Investigators aren't sure yet whether the weapon was government-issued or not. They're also not sure whether the man fired his gun, or even pointed it at his wife or the responding Seaside cops.

The local VA has a few Federal officer’s, they tend to be reject’s from local department’s such as the City police and the county Sheriff’s Department, at least this bunch is.

Just about every agency of the federal government has its own police force. It’s ridiculous. For example, even the NIH has its own department.

...

That was something our last Republican president started.

“If confronted with a weapon, they are going to defend themselves.”

It all comes down to what “confronted with a weapon” means.

Police do not have a blank check to shoot anyone who possesses a weapon in their presence. They do not even have a blank check to disarm everyone in their presence.

As the article stated, they are investigating to figure out what happened.

“What is a “federal police officer”?”

Something that should not exist.

L<

The first correct answer.

I’m laughing but cringing because I shouldn’t be laughing. But that was funny!

Ahh yes, my old home town, lived in Seaside before moving here to Nevada. It was packed with crime back then and its worse now. No mystery why the cops are on edge. When we lived there we lived in a duplex house, the neighbor downstairs became a cop and was sure to tell us never to tell anyone he was a cop and lived there or the gangs would take revenge on our home.

Finny, you’re right as rain! The cops are gun crazy and it’s a national disgrace! And here we are debating whether or not the Second Amendment plainly says what is says. These jerks in black robes all over the country sitting around contemplating their navels haven’t a clue about the Bill of Rights! And when cops break the laws they are sworn to uphold, they should be suffering the same penalties for doing so as anyone else. Seaside is just another Waco.

“Rent a guard force for military installation.”

Actually the Naval Postgraduate School is just what it’s name implies. I had a cousin who taught Russian there back during the cold war. It’s like a specialized university that teaches stuff that military leaders can’t get anywhere else.

Regardless. Military installations all over this country are guarded by federal employees who are the “police” for each particular installation. They control inflow, egress, security, etc.

It doesn’t make a difference about NPS (I know exactly what it is); it is still a military installation. Frankly the part about NPS is a diversion about the force and function of the federal employees who guard government installations.

The reason they have that force in the first place is that the government determined in its infinite wisdom it is better to have a government civilian force than a military one. My guess is that at one time somebody thought a government civilian would be cheaper than a soldier, sailor, Marine, etc. to guard the gate.

I did read the story, SA. The man “stepped outside with a gun and the officers shot him”. Did you not read what you posted or did you just copy and paste?

We wouldn’t have these kinds of problems if only the police had guns. /S

FPS

FEDERAL PROTECTIVE SERVICE

I saw one pull over a weaving apparently tired trucker near Little Rock last week when I was returning from Colorado

They are ostensibly to guard GSA assets

But who knows

First of all, these officers did not enter this family’s home.

Second, if you have committed a felony or have had a warrant issued for you, the officers have every right to execute that warrant or enter your home to effect an arrest.

These men are charged with doing this on behalf of the justice system. Someone has to do it. It’s their assigned job.

This isn’t in violation of your rights.

Read what is presented in the article. The man exited his home with a weapon.

I would urge you to think carefully about these types of situations and spare your family the anguish of doing something they’ll all regret.

I could be wrong, but I think part of the problem is that people think they have the right to confront officers with a gun, that a conversation will ensue after which they can back down and all will be peachy.

Officers are not there to debate. They are there to carry out their mission. They are called or assigned to go to a home. Their purpose is to offer assistance, stabilize the situation, or effect an arrest.

DO NOT appear before them with a weapon. Keep your hands extended and make it perfectly clear you have nothing in them. Tell them you intend to comply with their wishes. Don’t make quick moves. Do exactly what they ask you to do.

That’s what I have to do. It’s what we all need to do.

If I disagree with what officers are doing, I know that I will have the right to obtain representation and take them and the municipality to task later on.

You endure it. That’s just the way it is. You’re not going to win on site, so allow them to do their job. Then take them to court and end their career if you think they deserve it.

Lets say for arguments sake the officers are there to do you harm. Is anyone here under the impression they are going to prevent the officers from doing harm with a weapon?

These officers are not going to be stopped, so get it out of your head you can confront them and deter them.

Some FReepers seem to think confronting officers is the right thing to do. Yikes. That’s the best way I know of to get yourself and family members killed, even if the officers have no intent to harm anyone when they arrive on scene.

The officers arriving are generally uniformed.

The man standing on the porch probably isn’t.

How do the arriving officers know who he is, what his job is?

The man exited his home with a weapon.

Pretty good idea at night if you hear a commotion involving your wife, even a cop might do that.

I would urge you to think carefully about these types of situations and spare your family the anguish of doing something they’ll all regret.

I forget, you are a cop that believes we peasants should "Stop, drop, and cower" when our masters command us.

One a fool “confronts” a cop. With or without a weapon. Other than disagreeing with a traffic officer during a stop, the best policy is to say little or nothing and offer no resistance. Give them absolutely no reason to use any kind of force on you. OTOH, all this no-nock warrant stuff with guys dressed up like soldiers needs to go immediately. And stuff like we’ve seen recently in Waco needs to be litigated and the cops need to go to jail. We don’t allow our military to control inside our national borders with few exceptions, so it is an abuse of their powers for cops to play at being soldiers. Citizens can’t continue to be viewed as a “foreign army.”

Finny, I appreciate your position, but the guy exited his home with his gun. They did not go barging into his home without identifying themselves.

We don’t know all aspects of this yet. We’ll have to wait and see if they acted properly or not.

All I have said is that you put yourself in extreme jeopardy when you appear in front of officers with a gun in your hand.
