Rick Perry: Trump Is Unfit to Lead the Military, ‘Should Immediately Withdraw’ from Race
Mediaite ^ | 07/18/2015 | Joshua Riddle

Lots of Donald Trump‘s Republican presidential candidates have already shredded him for his comments about John McCain, but Rick Perry came out swinging by calling for Trump to basically GTFO.

In case you missed it, the draft-defering Trump attacked McCain today over his war hero status because, “He’s a war hero ’cause he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.”

Now, for some unbelievable reason, lots of conservatives including the aforementioned candidates thought Trump crossed a line.

Perry was the first to release a statement on The Donald’s latest rambling, this one really going for the jugular (emphasis his):

Donald Trump should apologize immediately for attacking Senator McCain and all veterans who have protected and served our country. As a veteran and an American, I respect Sen. McCain because he volunteered to serve his country. I cannot say the same of Mr. Trump. His comments have reached a new low in American politics. His attack on veterans make him unfit to be Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces, and he should immediately withdraw from the race for President.

For the record, when Trump was asked if he plans to apologize, he said no.

Benedict Arnold was a war hero too. It’s a bad idea for anyone to make a blanket assessment — “You served? Well, then I will worship you all the days of your life and I will attack anyone who ever criticizes you.”

Trump has it basically right: McCain deserves scorn. He has harmed this nation. For decades. Having been a POW does not absolve the man of the guilt of being hurtful to American values.

A new low in American politics? What about standing on the world stage and having a grown man say “Oops!”

Trump is a political chameleon and always has been. He will say whatever he thinks will score him points with whoever he is trying to get something from at the given moment, whether it’s the Clintons or conservative voters. The man is playing conservatives for a bunch of suckers. And so far he is succeeding. I honestly have no idea what his real political convictions are because he keeps changing them. Do I like what he is saying on immigration these days? For the most part, yes.

But do I trust him? Not for a New York minute.

Obama has proven he has no clue how to run the military. The GOP continues to let him do as he pleases. What would be the difference if someone else had no clue. NOTHING DIFFERENT!

Perry is off to a really poor start. I don’t think he will gain any traction by slamming Trump at every opportunity, but that seems to be his strategy.

But, on the other hand he is the only telling It like it is. He is the only one willing to stand up to the Republicrat machine. If he is not for real at least (in the worst case) he is no worse than the feckless C of C toadies.

Does Perry even know how many braches of the service we have? He didn’t know the names of the three branches of our federal government so who knows?

Perry should take his clown show home. The media would wipe him out in a general election.

Trump stepped in it. There's no way around that.
Never criticize a POW. But they aren't necessarily war heroes. The only people I have considered war heroes were great generals or people awarded Bronze Stars, Silver Stars, Distiguished Service Cross and the like.

Rich Perry is getting really hysterical. imho, D. Trump is more qualified than B. Obama. Did I miss Perry calling for the big O to withdraw?

Trump fights for us.

Trump fights for Trump. He donates to Hillary and he supports taking Obamacare all the way to the Canadian single-payer model. I yield to no one in my loathing of John McCain, but the enemy of my enemy can still be a ridiculous buffoon.
