7 officials charged with aiding escape of 'El Chapo'

The Mexican government announced that 7 officials have been charged in aiding and abetting the escape of cartel leader Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman. The Mexican AG's office would not name the officials charged, but how surprised would you be if they didn't include any higher-ups? The director of the prison where El Chapo escaped has been fired, but no word if he was involved in the escape plot.

Guzman's escape last Saturday from a maximum security prison through a mile-long tunnel built into his cell was a profound embarrassment for President Enrique Peña Nieto, raising pressure on the government to do more to battle public sector corruption.

They probably put him in the cell with the tunnel already in place. When they got wind of the extradition request in Mex City, someone there probably got a nice 7 figure bonus for telling them it was time for him to leave, if he had not already been using the tunnel to come and go at will anyway.

Yep. This sort of thing isn't at all uncommon for Latin America. Pablo Escobar built his own prison and hired his guards. He had a helicopter for his own use right there in the courtyard.

If I was Donald Trump, I would pay 10 ex-military members (I’d throw in a Russian and a Ghurka for fun) $1 million dollars each and have them hunt El Chapo until he is killed. Then I would hold a press conference, and as soon as I take the podium, I would take that fat beaner’s head out of a bowling ball bag and say “F—K YOU!” to all my detractors.
