Louisiana Campaigns Tread Water Until Vitter’s Race
Roll Call Politics ^ | July 16, 2015 | Eli Yokley

For a number of ambitious Republicans in Louisiana, a whole lot hinges on the state’s gubernatorial election later this year — and Sen. David Vitter.

Vitter is one of four candidates facing off in the Pelican State’s “jungle primary” in October. He will be up against two other Republicans and one Democrat in a race that, unless a single candidate gets half the vote, would advance the two top candidates to a runoff in late November.

If he ultimately emerges as the victor — and that’s still an “if”— a brand new set of ifs would arise and leave politicians at several levels in Louisiana stuck watching and waiting.

Vitter has not said whether he would resign immediately and let outgoing Gov. Bobby Jindal pick his replacement, or wait to vacate the seat at the same time he is sworn in as governor. But it’s no secret Vitter’s relationship with the two-term governor is strained: Jindal has refused to endorse Vitter, and Vitter has criticized the state’s “broken fiscal policy” under Jindal’s watch.

I realize that no one among us is perfect, but Vitter is an embarrassment. I hope he loses badly.

Three GOP Gubernatorial candidates....
One Public Service Commissioner and former Lt. Gov....
One current Lt. Gov.....
One current US Senator....
and
One Democrat, Minority leader of the La House of Reps.

This will go to a runoff, imo.

Personally, I don’t want to see Vitter leave the Senate. Despite his personal peccadilloes, he has my endorsement.

Bel Edwards is my state rep...HUGE lib dem. Whatever you think about Vitter, we certainly don’t want Bel Edwards near the governorship...disastrous. Hopefully Jindal realizes and will put aside whatever his issues are when the time comes.

Vitter is more conservative than the other Republicans running, is he not? He’s certainly the front runner. He’ll likely make the runoff and it will likely be against the rat.

So I must hope he wins, big time.

If his wife doesn’t mind he went to a whore and the voters who reelected him don’t mind, then neither do I. Tons of them go to whores, he got caught so we know about it. We sing the praises of some candidates, smart money is, some of them are adulterers, and some use prostitutes, those are just the odds.

Louisiana is sexually libertine state (on hetero matters), they don’t seem to care. It’s ancient history at this point. The only people talking about it are the democrats, they say he’s a hypocrite cause he’s not pro-fag. Go ahead and run on queer marriage in Louisiana, democrats, go ahead and do it. It’s been granted now, only people that are against it are gonna be motivated by it to come to the polls.

I don’t necessarily believe some of the things I heard, that he’s into weird stuff.

The whore, by her own admission, told Vitter her real name (rather than her fake hooker name) and asked him to call her by it and that’s why he stopped seeing her. Sounds to me like she wanted a “relationship” with him, she could be making up that fetish stuff out of spite. She also said his member is tiny, I mean come on, the spite is obvious. And she’s a whore, being paid by the democrats to spread rumors is out of the question? Why should I believe a word out of her filthy mouth?

Edwin Edwards was Governor of LA, now there’s an embarrassment.

I’m always suspicious when a whore (or ex g/f or wife) says so-and-so has a tiny tallywhacker. I guess that means you can drive a truck through their love canal because it’s so large. Just sayin’...

Vitter’s voting record in the Senate is second to none. He was consistently conservative in the US House, and when he served in the LA Legislature.

Of all the candidates, he has the best chance to thwart the power of Louisiana’s teacher’s union, and other public employee unions. And they are powerful here.

I have NO qualms about voting for him for Governor.

None.

Vitter Makes Campaign Stop in Ruston
By Walter Abbott

U. S. Senator David Vitter (R, LA) made a brief stop in Ruston this morning while campaigning for Governor.

Speaking to supporters at the Ruston/Lincoln Chamber of Commerce on North Vienna, Vitter said he was accelerating his campaign, and touted his polling and fundraising.

Said Vitter, “We’re raising money effectively. We have about $4.7 million cash on hand, and that is about the same as all our opponents combined.”

He added, “We have a great lead (in polling), somewhere around 35%. Then the Democrat in the race, John Bel Edwards is around 28%, maybe 30%.

Vitter also promised to be accessible and to avoid “living in a bubble.”

Downsville Mayor Reggie Skains noted that even though Vitter was a South Louisiana Congressman, he always would see him whenever he visited Washington.

Said Skains, “I’ve never – and I’ve frequented his office many times – has he ever failed not to see me.”

Another piece of good news about this election is that former Rep. Jeff Landry is running for Attorney General. If he wins, he’ll be in a good position to run for Governor or Senator someday.

Is Buddy Caldwell particularly vulnerable ? Landry might be better off waiting for the ‘16 Senate race if Vitter is elevated (then again, Vitter could elevate Landry at once if he wins). Has there been any definitive talk as to whom Vitter will appoint to his seat (since presumably he won’t vacate it early to allow Jindal to do so) ?

He seems to be. There are a few articles that talk about Caldwell’s vulnerability. The Landry challenge is for real; Vitter’s endorsed him and I’m already hearing radio ads on Rush and Sean Hannity’s shows.

No democrat running for AG? Boy I didn’t know the filing deadline was so late, Sept. 10th, just 6 weeks before the primary.

If no rat gets in then all the dem voters will vote for Caldwell. God, I hate the jungle primary.

My concern for Louisiana remains that the jungle primary is more of a nightmare for Conservatives when you end up having a Conservative and a RINO in the runoff. Democrats and the RINO party establishment back the RINO and the Conservative often loses. They really need to change it to actual closed primaries and a face-off against the Democrats, which is the only way to ensure better nominees and winners.

Well, here in Louisiana, as in other states I suppose, it sometimes boils down to the lesser of evils. We just have to go with the most conservative choices we have. Vitter seems to do well in the Senate and I just hope we can get a decent conservative in that seat AND keep the governorship. A dems would be disastrous IMO and Bel Edwards horrible, as he has been as state rep in my district...a big swath of low income, lots of welfare happily voting for handouts.

Edwards was hard to take and a monumental embarrassment...yikes, nothing like that again please. Discouraging he made it to the runoff last cycle for state legislature. Personally embarrassed of peeps in my state over that one, though he didn’t win, but made it that far.

Can you pls expound on sexually libertine state? New Orleans is pretty freaky in that respect, but trying to understand what you mean. Thinking maybe because Vitter was elected in spite of? That issue will come up again election time,, always does. Back to who you gonna vote for, Vitter with his indiscretions or a Bel Edwards, or Edwards-type. Or maybe I just need to get out more ;)...we’re sexually libertine state? Holy moley...that doesn’t sound good, we got enuf issues cher

Sorry if I didn’t cc all on thread. FR noob couldn’t figure out how to easily do that :(
