The case of Kate Steinle, the young woman shot and killed by an illegal immigrant, has prompted a heated debate over immigration policy and so-called sanctuary cities. San Francisco set Steinles killer free before the murder because of its adoption of sanctuary city status. This movement began a few decades ago as a symbolic protest against enforcement of immigration law, but now the real-world consequence of setting repeat offenders loose has finally caught up with one of those cities not to mention the Steinle family, who had nothing to do with it.
USA Todays editorial board calls for an end to this dangerous posturing today, at least in San Francisco:

Nah, let’s EXPAND the idea to “Sanctuary States” where the people of the state decide what laws they’ll enforce or not.
You know, like the way the country was founded.
And this is a reliably “liberal” rag!
“Welcome to the party, pal.”
Wait....Did I wake up in Bizaro World?
The political winds are blowing on these asinine policies..Perfect opportunity for the GOP to capitalize but I’m sure they’ll screw it up..Chamber of Cheap Labor wants these illegals.
Sanctuary Cities was started to poke a stick in Reagan’s eye after he signed the 1968 Immigration Reform And Control Act.
Sorry, “1968” should be “1986.”
YES a liberal rag
Woah
Actually, we've been living in Bizaro World for years. We're so used to it that when something goes back to normal we think normal is bizarre. Strange, huh?
Hmmmm.
Appears Trump opened up a can, and some are reading the writing on the wall.
Force all libtards to live in Sanctuary cities so they can experience their stupidity first hand...
USA today must have found a way to blame sanctuary cities on Republicans.
Congress needs to pass “Kate’s Law.”
Under the law, any illegal caught in the U.S. Will be deported immediately. Their assets will be seized and sold. The proceeds will be used to pay to victims or their families.
Took 12 posts for someone to mention the word “TRUMP”.
About a week in the campaign, and the guy has already gotten the term Sanctuary City demonized in the public sector.
My what a liberal guy he is. /s
With all that’s going on right now, there is no reason why any real patriot running for election(hopefully, there are a few)shouldn’t jump on the opportunities presented.
It’s a good step for USA Today...
The whole concept of have cities where ‘select types’ of criminals are protected is against everything good about our country.
Nice to see a newspaper recognize that...
Now he needs to spray it around like a can of Mace, and challenge the GOP in Congress to do something about it NOW to show they mean it - like backing the current bills to defund the so-called Sanctuary cities.
Put both parties on the hot seat - the GOP shuffling their feet and clearing their throats while the Democrats try to defend those cities.
