WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, U.S. Senator Rand Paul announced plans to introduce legislation that would prevent sanctuary cities from harboring violent and dangerous criminal aliens. The legislation would require state and local law enforcement to notify the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following the arrest of an illegal immigrant and detain an illegal immigrant if requested to do so by ICE. If the Bureau of Prisons receives a request from ICE to transfer an illegal immigrant to their custody, that request will take priority over the request from state and local agencies. Under this legislation, localities will be required to follow the new requirements as a condition of receiving federal law enforcement grants.
Our nation now has whole cities and states who stand up and willingly defy federal immigration laws in order to protect illegal immigrants who have broken our nations laws. This must end and it must end now. My bill makes it clear, the American people will not stand for cities harboring violent criminals, Sen. Paul said.
Ingraham: I dont know, I havent seen whether youve spoken out on these most recent facts that, I guess these came out today, that illegal immigrants account now for 37% of all federal sentences in fiscal year 2014, 347,000 illegal alien criminals have been released into the population, and, of course, the most recent heinous attack on that young woman that ended in her killing in San Francisco. What is your reaction to these huge numbers? (10:48)Paul: You know, conservatives say that we believe in the rule of law, well, the beginning of the rule of law is actually enforcing the law. And, since 1986, there was a promise we would enforce the law on border security, we have done squat, weve done nothing. Since we said we were going to enforce the law in 1986, 11 million people have crossed illegally. So, the first thing we have to do is enforce the law. But, we have not had a president, Republican or Democrat, who is willing to enforce immigration law and now we have whole cities and states who stand up and say, we just dont care, we want these people here at all costs, and were not going to do anything about it. And, I think the time has come for that to end. But, its not going to end until you actually have an executive in the White House who says, I will enforce the immigration laws. (11:22)
Ingraham: I think the public doesnt deserve this. Certainly this family doesnt deserve it. But, I mean this is just one. We can pull up thousands of people whove had either DWIs or rapes or horrible cases of child molestation, child abuse, domestic battery, drug trafficking, MS-13, the list goes on and on and on. And, only when you have this beautiful young woman killed on a San Francisco pier, a pier that Ive walked on many times, does this become an issue. And, I say, this is an issue all the time, regardless of where someone lives or where the crime occurs. IT could occur anywhere in this country because of the sheer number of people who have been released, period. (12:08)
Paul: It goes to the heart of the matter because, like I say, weve been promised this over and over again and no one is enforcing the laws. The laws on the books say that we should have a secure border and we dont. Now, could we update the security, yes. But, even the existing laws need to be enforced and theyre not being enforced, theyre being flouted and basically laughed at by cities like San Francisco. And, were going to obey the law or were not going to obey the law, and there ought to be a revolution of folks saying we want you to obey the law and making sure the president hears them loud and clear. Thank you Trump for bringing attention to this matter.
Amazing. A small glimmer of intelligence among Republican politicians in DC.
More like pandering. This issue has long been known. Randy is no more committed to this than he is to any other conservative idea. Nor will Bhoner do anything but ensure its defeat.
DC street theater.
So, if this were to pass, we’d have a law making it the law to follow the law?
Maybe so, but street theater has its uses.
Democrats get all kinds of things done by using street theater to set the table for future action.
Homosexual marriage being an obvious example.
But this act isn’t for the benefit of America. It’s to bury the issue.
“We tried...on to the next thing”.
That’s giving them too much credit for intelligence. Every federal dollar has some sort of string on it that allows it to be pulled. This is how they got every State, county and city by the balls and hooked on fed grant money. You are required to play by their rules the second the first federal dollar hits your bank account. Failure to do so will result in loss of funds, and possible requirement to pay back what you have already spent.
Yep...thats about right. Sad.
Good for Paul....we need people to take a stand....
Rand Paul's immigration speech...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.[Posted on 03/19/2013 7:04:07 AM PDT by Perdogg]
Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.
Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.
Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.
If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...
This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.
Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.
Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reformLatinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...[Posted on 04/21/2013 1:52:42 PM PDT by SoConPubbie]
[but he's not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
How about a TOTAL ban on federal funds for sanctuary cities?
How about a 20 to life mandatory sentence for any gov’t official who votes to make a sanctuary city?
It would be more accurate to say that the republicans want the local taxpayers to pay to enforce the federal immigration laws. It would be much better for the GOP to hire more ICE agents.
Are you in favor of “sanctuary cities”?
“More like pandering. ....”
Yup, and it takes attention away from his many weaknesses.
I’d like to know how Rand Paul feels about the Iran deal.
“Rand Paul: Iran Wants Nukes Because It Feels Threatened”

Now Rand can rest easy, knowing that Iran won’t feel so “threatneed.”
His Pappy is all good with the Iran deal, like father, like son, not to much difference between Ron Paul and Rand Paul
Yup. The principal difference between them is that Rand is shrewd, and not revealing his true colors 100%. Rand wants to win the primaries, after all.
