The US Army is to cut 40,000 soldiers from its ranks over the next two years at home and abroad, a defense official said Tuesday, in a move that will raise doubts about its ability to fight wars.
Under the cost-cutting plan, the Army will be down to 450,000 soldiers at the end of the 2017 budget year, even though in 2013 it argued in budgetary documents that going below 450,000 troops might mean it could not win a war, USA Today said.
By comparison, the Army swelled to 570,000 men and women during the peak of fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, the newspaper said.
Some 17,000 civilians working for the Army will also be laid off, the official told AFP, confirming the USA Today report. …

The fact the Army might not win a war is the point of the cutbacks. Obama believes stripping down this country’s ability to wage war will lessen the likelihood of involvement in one. That “reasoning” has as it’s fatal flaw the glaring fact America actually becomes MORE likely to be challenged. Reagan, more than any President in modern history knew the value of peace-through-strength deterrence.
Time to protest becoming vulnerable...the administration’s goal.
That is Obama’s plan.....after he leaves a cored-out military, our country will fall to an enemy very soon.
Marines to defend our nation and die for us one day, and then illegal gang members on our sanctuary streets, killing us the next.

Only one problem with that plan.........It's really the 400,000,000 guns in citizens hands along with plenty of ammunition and a second amendment that keeps our country safe from foreign invasion.

Just think of how many illegals and human trash can get welfare since the reduction of the military saves money that can be put to good use elsewhere...the welfare (vote buying) system.

When was the last time the army won a war, anyway? With the poor treasonous quality of America’s political leadership ( both parties) I don’t believe it is possible for the military to win a war. They are basically just an international 911 group on hand to be inserted in small numbers into localized hotspots like pitching tents for Ebola patients. God only knows what “ climate change” operations the left will demand they undertake.
Sorry but it is going to take a 21st century version of “Pearl Harbor” to maybe wake up America. Or maybe not. The next war will be fought in cyberspace and we may wake up some morning already defeated without ever firing a shot and most won’t even care as long as the ebt cards still work

Cutting back on the military is one of the best ways ever devised to guarantee that the military will be needed.
It works every time it’s tried.
As long as ISIS is having equivalent budget cuts and implementing “austerity” programs, we should be ok. Right?
While I agree we have lots of guns but a few problems exist with that plan. Odumbo has been doing his damndest to get those same 400 million guns taken away, he will not stop. At one time, our troops were the strongest military in the world. They HAVE the means to win wars but our so-called leaders hold them back when ever and where ever they can. Odumbo has purged most of the major leadership. Don't tell me there is NO PLAN to have this entire country overrun. Perhaps it is WE, The People who should be the ones to take this country back.

At that point it is a makework workfare program; just like other gubmint jobs, the bennies are better than those in the private sector (who pay the gubmint workforce) are getting.
