D.C. police said the 18-year-old Spires — who might have been high on synthetic drugs — tried to grab a cellphone tucked into the waistband of a recent American University graduate headed to a gathering with friends.
The two struggled, police said, and the terror began.
Police and a witness interviewed said passengers trapped in the moving train huddled at both ends of the car and watched in horror as Spires allegedly punched 24-year-old Kevin Joseph Sutherland until he fell to floor, then stabbed him until he was dead. Court documents say the victim was cut or stabbed 30 or 40 times in the chest, abdomen, back, side and arms. Police said the assailant then threw the victim’s cellphone and returned to stomp on Sutherland’s body.

This is DC. The only people carrying sidearms are the Capitol Hill elite and/or their bodyguards. None for the commoner DC resident.

Perhaps. And if I was in D.C. and not able to carry my firearm, I probably would have. Although it is doubtful that would have done any good. In the excerpt it said the thug stabbed the guy 30 to 40 times, then threw the cell phone, and then continued to kick the guy.
This guy was caught dead in New York City.

They struggled over the item before Sutherland was punched and stabbed in his chest, back, sides and arms. So you think the price was ultimately worthwhile ?

Considering this horrific crime, it is receiving little attention here in the Beltway.
That depends on how many of the passengers were white.
Cowering in the metro car is simply unbelievable to me. It's an invitation for the animal to press his attack to the women and the old dude when he got done killing the hapless Sutherland boy.
I would have smashed my cell phone and cut his throat from ear to ear right down to his spinal cord with the broken glass. Then I would have thrown his body out the door and went for a burger.
Oh, those fun-loving, drug-crazed black people! Hey, “leaders”...wasn’t this a hate crime...or did he really love the guy? Note to self: avoid these ferals at all times.
Learn to defend yourself. Make violent thugs pay right then, right there.
