D.C. police said the 18-year-old Spires — who might have been high on synthetic drugs — tried to grab a cellphone tucked into the waistband of a recent American University graduate headed to a gathering with friends.
The two struggled, police said, and the terror began.
Police and a witness interviewed said passengers trapped in the moving train huddled at both ends of the car and watched in horror as Spires allegedly punched 24-year-old Kevin Joseph Sutherland until he fell to floor, then stabbed him until he was dead. Court documents say the victim was cut or stabbed 30 or 40 times in the chest, abdomen, back, side and arms. Police said the assailant then threw the victim’s cellphone and returned to stomp on Sutherland’s body.

“I watched [the attacker] drop-kick him in the head several times, like he wanted to kick his head off,” said the woman who was on her way to the concert with her father. “We saw the perpetrator kicking the man. He had him on the ground, punching him, kicking him and stabbing him.”
Disgusting.
The attacker is black, victim was white.
One good person with a gun could have stopped this.
Not one goddam news station covered this horrific story. Shame on them; shame on us.
Probably a gun free zone, but not a knife free zone.
Of course the media uses the excuse of synthetic drugs, to explain away Thug mentality of “if you don’t give me something I want I’ll kill you”.

OK - I know it is easy to be brave behind a keyboard, and I can’t say how I would have reacted in this situation, but I pray to the Good Lord that if He chooses to test me, I do more than huddle at the end of the car.

Some drugs give people above-average strength, so you would have to fight him with some back-up to help out. From the description, the passengers could tell this guy was way over the top with violence. Still, no one on the train had their CCW.
It’s DC. Of course it’s a gun free zone. Only the rulers of the sheep have armed security.
So would giving up your cellphone, possibly.
Yes we would hope others would intervene to prevent this. But considering the way the world is, people might have Been afraid of getting stabbed themselves, afraid of being targeted as racist since the perpetrator is a member of a protected class, and thus fearful of any legal entanglement with a protected class. In the fog of what was going on some might have thought the two of them knew each other and it was a personal score being settled. Some may have thought in spite of the stabbing that the black fella was attacked first and was just defending himself. Who knows.

Yeah that was what caught my eye.
One mile from my home on Sunday night, a white woman was approached from behind on the street in Hollywood by a black and killed with a shotgun blast to the back of the head. Completely random, just walking with her boyfriend to In n Out. Maybe she rejected his gorilla like advances at some point in the past, but as of now it appears the two did not know each other
