Donald Trump doubled down on his controversial comments about illegal immigration from Mexico on Monday, saying, "infectious disease is pouring across the border."
Trump issued a lengthy — nearly 900 word — statement invoking the death of a San Francisco woman shot and killed last week by a suspect who had previously been deported to Mexico five times.
"This is merely one of thousands of similar incidents throughout the United States," Trump said Monday. "In other words, the worst elements in Mexico are being pushed into the United States by the Mexican government."
The 2016 Republican presidential candidate said Mexican drug cartels are using immigrants to smuggle heroin, cocaine and other illicit drugs into the United States.
"The Border Patrol knows this. Likewise, tremendous infectious disease is pouring across the border," Trump continued.
His latest comments come nearly three weeks after he made remarks at his White House campaign launch that led to an intense public backlash from business and Hispanic groups.
Trump at the event said Mexico is "sending people that have lots of problems. ... They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.”
Univision, NBCUniversal, Macy's, NASCAR and Serta all announced they would be cutting their business ties with the celebrity real estate developer and reality TV star over the remarks.
ESPN become the latest business to drop Trump, announcing Monday it would no longer hold the ESPY Celebrity Golf Classic charity event at the Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles.
Over the weekend, Trump acknowledged his business interests had suffered.
But the wildcard GOP candidate has shown no signs he plans to tone down his remarks about illegal immigration.
Trump on Monday also said his original remarks were being "deliberately distorted by the media."

I’m keeping an open mind, but if I had to vote today. I’d vote for Trump. He understands the trade issues. He’s saying the truth and letting the chips fall where they may. It’s a very refreshing change.
Of course he’s correct, but not politically correct which is all the liberals care about. I’ve read article before where the border guards tell of how they basically “stay sick” handling and dealing with these folks who are then sent about the country for whatever reason this is being done.
I’ll say this for The Donald when he causes a fire he doesn’t try to put it out. He gets in a supertanker plane and drops a ton of gasoline on top of it.
I guess the Donald isn’t quietly going away. That’s what a billion dollars does for you.

However, he is willing and able to shine a light on the horrible effects of the illegal alien lawbreakers.

Dear Enlightened, Other than Trump only one candidate shows potential for honest change IMO. That would be Dr. Carson. My husband thinks Trump with Carson running as VP would be great. I tend to agree unless someone jumps into the ring who doesn’t have jello for a backbone and some experience doing something more than being a Senator!!

I do not want him in the white house because he’s a globalist on steroids. But I do appreciate that he is laying out the unmentioned problem of illegal immigration and how it makes Americans suffer and pay, pay, pay.
Rush pointed out today that all criticism is focused on Trump and not the validity of what he said (now backed up by stats and a horrific event).
