From Republicans, Skepticism About Bush's Ability To Win Latinos
NBC News ^ | 6/26/15 | PERRY BACON JR.

Some influential Republicans remain skeptical that the party must tap a presidential candidate with strong appeal to Latino voters or that Jeb Bush is that person, leaving them unwilling for now to embrace the former Florida governor.

While GOP candidate and businessman Donald Trump has made controversial comments about Mexican-Americans since he entered the 2016 race, Bush has repeatedly highlighted his connections to the Latino community and praised the influence of immigrants on American culture. He speaks Spanish frequently on the campaign trail, constantly discusses the importance of Republicans reaching beyond the party's base of white voters and attends events that most of his 2016 rivals don't, like a conference for Latino pastors in April. He is also a strong supporter of creating a path to legalization for undocumented immigrants.

In a recent interview with ABC News, Bush said that he and his wife Columba "speak Spanish more than English" at home. He spoke Spanish in that interview, as he did at times in an appearance on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and in his formal announcement speech in Miami last month. Bush also blasted Trump in an interview this week with the Daily Caller, saying "His views are not reflective of the immigrant experience. He's just wrong."

He can make a whore out of himself if he wants to, but I am pretty sure it is a waste of effort.

Party bigwigs worrying about pandering to “Latinos”!

Sickening.

Ole Jeb is doing nothing but pandering to them.

He doesn’t give a rip about CONSERVATIVES!

CRUZ TO THE TOP!

He’s Mexican through and through. Married to Mexico’s Imelda Marcos for cripe’s sake! Speaks only Spanish at home. And RINOs are worried he can’t ‘get’ Latinos?

What in the hell are these people smoking? D’ya think that if even this level of Burrito Code [not to be confused with “Bushido Code” :0)] can’t/doesn’t work then something the hell is wrong with the RINOs’ assessments of viability?

Of course it’s wrong. It’s wrong because the premise is wrong.

He can’t possibly get as many illegal alien votes to make up for the citizens who will not vote to surrender their country.

Yeb Bush wants you to vote to abandon the rule of law and surrender your country to fraudulently documented foreigners.

I won’t.

Even a Republican who is a certified illegal alien honduran can get any more of the “hispanic” vote than any other Republican. A solid Conservative Republican who promised to end illegal immigration and send the wetbacks home just might get more legal latino votes because he would be believable. Part of the problem is that non citizens vote in American elections in a significant percentage. No Republican at all will get the illegal vote.

Rather than getting votes from Latinos, Conservatives concentrate on getting votes from Americans - no wonder El Jebe doesn’t care about American votes.

I don’t understand this. Hillary courts Latinos, and all she has aver done for them is use them as maids and lawncutting. Bush married to a Latina, and does millions of things for Latinos, and they flock to the one candidate that wants to enslave them. I will never understand this

Exactly.

For every Latino vote he reaches out to get, he will lose 4 votes.

no “Republican” is going to get most or even much of the latino vote, that’s now how it’s rigged

if those were conservative voters swarming across our border the democrats would be using predator drones on them

What is NBC's problem? Are they incapable of the truth?

Trump's comments WERE NOT about Mexican-Americans. They were about Mexicans who enter the US illegally, often committing crimes of the worst sort.

I would think Trump's message is the one that would resonate with hispanic US citizens who would like to start and grow their own small businesses, with less government interference and more protection from unfair competition.
