The family of a California woman who was allegedly shot dead by an illegal Mexican immigrant have criticized officials who didn't hand him over after he was jailed just months before the attack. Grieving relatives of Kathryn Steinle, 32, who was shot dead on San Francisco's Pier 14 Thursday night, made the comments in light of revelations that alleged killer Francisco Sanchez, 45, had already been sent back over the border five times. Immigration officials said that they had made him a 'priority' request for any law enforcement officers who picked him up.

Make it really interesting. File a civil rights complaint against the federal government, and since the Civil Rights division is part of DOJ, demand an independent prosecutor.

I can accept that they are grieving, but they did live in San Francisco. I wonder what their feelings on Sanctuary Cities were prior to this incident?
I really feel for this family. Especially her father who witnessed her murder - how horrible.
No amount of monetary compensation or apologies (not that any will be forthcoming) can bring her back.
I pray Kathryn is now in the loving hands of Jesus Himself, never to experience pain again. And prayers for strength and comfort for the family.

Sucks, but that is the way our system works. That actually makes it worse though politically, the guy has nothing they can sue for....if he has anything in Mexico I suspect the family would have to go down there to sue.
File the lawsuit against the SF Board of Supervisors. They do not enjoy the same sovereign immunity as that of federal employees.

You mean it might not be true? She may still be alive! Quick, someone needs to investigate. I would feel really bad if the illegal was accused of killing someone, and they are not really dead.
In the liberal mind, it is OK if some people are murdered as a side effect of a policy that can be used to attract more voters, legal or illegal, to liberal candidates.
By their actions San Francisco city officials are complicit in the murder.
And people wonder why, the second time they are caught here illegally, I want them to be sent back south of the border with a bullet in the head.

Frankly, sovereign immunity is a concept whose time is past. We should be able to pierce through the “course and scope of employment” BS also and go after the people making these decisions personally. Bureaucrats will always be bureaucrats, but they don’t have to be nameless and faceless. Start tagging some names to these decisions and policies. We’ll see how excited the Lefties are about screwing broad swaths of the American public wghen they lose their anonymity.
