Donald Trump: I didn't expect business backlash to be "quite this severe"
CBS News ^ | July 4th, 2015 | By Reena Flores

On the heels of several major corporations distancing themselves from Donald Trump's various business interests, the Republican presidential candidate admitted Saturday that he didn't think the corporate backlash to his inflammatory comments about Mexican immigrants would be "quite this severe."

"I knew it was going to be bad because I was told this. All my life I have been told this: If you are successful, you don't run for office," Trump said in an interview on Fox News, addressing the recent spate of businesses that have severed their relationships with his brand. "I didn't know it was going to be quite this severe, but I really knew it was going to be bad."

During his presidential campaign announcement last month, Trump emphasized the need to curtail immigration from the southern border and criticized Mexican immigrants for "bringing crime" and being "rapists."

"It seems like I'm sort of the whipping post because I bring it up. And I don't understand whether you are liberal or whether you are conservative or whether you are Republican, Democrat -- why wouldn't you talk about a problem?" Trump said Saturday. "The crime is raging. It's violent, and people don't want to even talk about it. If you talk about it, you are a racist. I don't understand it."

I think he was playing at running for POTUS.

Now that it's cost him dearly, maybe he'll decide he actually wants to be POTUS.

Everyday I worry that Trump will just say screw it I don’t need this crap in my life and go back to his fantabulous life. Who could blame him. Both parties are ganging up to annihilate him because he endangers their cozy uniparty existence.

Donald doesn’t know that there is evil in the land, a Marxist Political Correctness that can’t let truth be spoken.

Yeah, there's pretty much unanimous agreement among the every elite bunch of snobs in the world that America - unlike every other country - has no right to have borders, has no right to say anyone can't just walk in (including dangerous felons who have been deported four or more times), and has no right to do anything about it.

Oh, and anyone who complains about it is a "rassist."

CBS misreported. He did not make inflammatory comments about Mexican immigrants; he lambasted the Mexican govt. for dumping their problem people ILLEGALLY here.

Like all MSM, they mis report whenever it suits their agenda. This is propaganda; it is no mistake.

"...If you think of it, what am I doing? I say let's make our country safe, and people are offended. It's incredible to me."

Could have been a line out of Atlas Shrugged.

If he pull out, his brand will collapse even further as he’ll lose the support of the American people. When you’re going through hell, keep going!

He can rise to the occasion but to clam he didn’t see it coming is too much. Here we have a golden opportunity and the man who pulled it off is confused. America must deserve Trump. What a chump. Waste of time. Too bad we can’t bring in a pitch hitter to continue the fight. How could he have ever stepped up to the plate if he did not take this seriously. So much for “sacred honor”. It appears Trump has been in it for Trump. He is letting the moment slip through his fingers and this opportunity is going to go away. In twelve hours he will wish the media was as kind to him as they were to Palin. For a moment he posed a real threat. Good night, Donald.

These businesses are showing their true colors.

I don't shop Macy's, but my sister does. She spends a lot there. She called and told them off and how she's done shopping there. Let's see how any Mexicans it takes to match her spending.

Welcome to the culture war. One side has been committed to the fight for 60 years. The other side thought everyone was content to live and let live and agree to disagree.

He doesn’t HAVE the support of the American people. He barely has support of 1 in 10 GOP Primary voters.

Every day he talks he is costing us dearly at taking back the WH.
