The chopper was shot down in Afghanistan in 2011, near the Pakistan border, Rules of Engagement prevented pre-suppression fire into the helicopter's landing zone prior to landing, even though the pre-suppression fire would have come from a C-130 gunship watching the enemy w/RPGs approach the landing site area before the helicopter showed up IIRC the author's words.
