Rick Perry: Donald Trump made a huge error attacking Mexicans that way

Interesting that he went after Trump for what he said about Mexicans on the same day that he criticized the GOP more broadly for having given up on the black vote. Everyone expected him to run this time on his jobs record but yesterday’s comments were the biggest splash he’s made as a candidate so far.

I don’t mean to be cynical about it — these are his heartfelt positions, I’m sure, and good for him — but his choice of topic is probably at least partly a function of his standing in the race. The top-tier candidates like Bush, Rubio, and Walker no doubt have been sternly warned by their advisors to avoid getting into spats with Trump at all costs. No matter how nasty he gets, just laugh it off and get back on message. The more they fire back at him, the less serious they’ll appear by association. For someone like Perry, though, who’s at two percent in the polls, pulling a Sistah Souljah on Trump might be the easiest way to get Republicans’ attention. That’s deeply sad: A guy who spent 15 years presiding over a sustained economic boom in Texas needs to pick a fight with the MC of “The Apprentice” to improve his chances at the presidency? But yeah, that’s about the size of it.

And really, Perry’s got no one to blame but himself. If he had passed on the race in 2012, if he had never had an “oops” moment or scolded righties for being heartless in not backing in-state tuition for illegals, he’d be right there with Bush et al. in the top tier this time. As it is, this may be his fastest route back onto voters’ radar screen. Makes me wonder how many other struggling Republican candidates will soon start throwing roundhouses at Trump too in hopes of bathing in the reflected spotlight. Hopefully someday we’ll ask each other, “Where were you when the Trump/Christie war broke out?”

“A bunch of GOPers are forgetting what country they live in”

Nah, they just decided that in the 2nd Mexican-American War that they would fight for the other side.

I think he is a good man. He will not make it past round 1.

Rick Perry has surrounded himself with the high and the mighty who are his ticket to prosperity. He is their puppet.

Too bad that tragic killing didn’t happen before Anne Coalter had that sit down talk with Jorge Ramos. He would have turned green trying to explain that sway.

Frederick Douglass stated,

"Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did, and it never will.

"Find out just what people will submit to, and you have found out the exact amount of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them; and these will continue until they are resisted with either words or blows, or with both.

"The limits of tyrants are prescribed by the endurance of those whom they oppress."

Our “leaders’ invite the president of Mexico to our congress so that HE can scold US. The U.S.A. looked lower than a snail’s belly on that day. What traitors we have in Washington.

This was the taboo issue that the ruling class did not want us to talk about.

That's why so many in the southwest U.S. have simply had enough of this sick charade.

They watched 30 years of professional politicians aid and abet this lawless invasion. They demanded relief. They got ignored and told lies in return.

And then the politicians told America there was nothing they could do about. Every excuse in the book. It's become worse in every aspect.

I would fire them all.

Exactly my thoughts. Perry has said about the same thing as Trump about the invasion of illegals across our border. However, you have to dig through miles of You Tube videos to pull out his words.

If you think about it, every Republican candidate has made reference to the havoc the invasion has created throughout America. We all are paying a price for it and it is something we do not want to stick our heads in the sand to make nice with the Hispanic vote. Instead, we should make a distinction. There is the Hispanic population who has played by the rules and wants to be good citizens. Then, there are those who do not play by the rules and make everyone’s lives miserable, including the good Hispanic population who plays by the rules. The trick the Democrats play is they put all of them in the same bucket and put words in the Republican mouths by saying the Republicans are calling it a bucket of sh**. No! The lawbreakers, who do not go by the rule of law are in the bucket. To keep their stink out of the neighborhoods, we pay good money to put them in prisons. And the good Hispanics are glad we do it.

The Republicans should have the strength to say they want their fellow Hispanic citizens lives better by controlling our border so that the culture of lawbreakers does not come to their neighborhoods. The rule of law comes from those with a culture for it.

Illegals crossing the border are not Americans, Marco.

I live in Massachusetts but I am very well versed on illegal immigration. I feel for the people of the SouthWest. I had been reading AmericanPatrol.com with Glenn Spencer for about fifteen years. He is an aggregator of all sorts of illegal immigration news. He once said that illegal immigration involves everything that is wrong with the country today at the highest levels and I have discovered over time that he was absolutely right. The rot comes from the head down.

Supposedly GWB was spreading that rumor way back in 1998. Don’t know if it is true, but he isn’t much of a candidate. He should go back to Haskell for campaign lessons.

While in Boston last summer, I met a very conservative tour bus driver, a lady. She lamented how she is in a hopeless minority in MA. And she was well-informed unlike so many Americans.

I like Rick Perry but I would prefer he not be running for president. He has zero chance of winning.

Maybe some other office but not president.

People are in lala land in Massachusetts. I think it is because the Democrat party has been so powerful for so long. Also, there is a group think, the Democrats snatched the new immigrant groups as they got off the boat years ago and they took advantage of the tribal group think. Once the first generation of a group starts to vote Democrat than their children, grandchildren and greatgrandchildren will continue to vote Democrat just as they have been taught at home. There is a echo chamber effect in Massachusetts. People just go along with the slogans of the Dems without thinking. The Democrats have so dumbed down the people and the Republicans are very luke warm so they do not educate the people.

There must be some truth to what Trump said. The media is all over his case and now Perry. I am surprised Perry would come out against Trump considering he has lived with the border and illegal immigration issue for many years here in Texas. We understand it for what it is and we don’t like it.

First, if anyone is born in America, they’re an American citizen regardless of their heritage and entitled to their rights uner our Constitution. So why do people continue to insist we call them Mexicans and confuse them with foreigners? Because they want to confuse the low information citizens. Trump was NOT referring to this legal segment of our population.

If their true nationality is Mexican and they have applied for legal immigration and lawfully entered the country, what’s the issue. The legal immigration process is supposed to weed out the rapists, criminals, and other undesirables and allow them to live in our country under our conditions until they become American citizens. Trump was NOT referring to this legal segment either.

What I don’t understand is why people are defending illegal immigrants from Mexico and the rapists and criminals embedded in them. They used to call them “wetbacks’ because they illegally entered our borders by crossing the Rio Grande at night. Now they are ‘undocumented immigrants’. Call them what you may, but they are still in this country illegally. They used to hide in the shadows, but now openly flaunt themselves knowing the current administration will not defend our borders or deport them.

They steal our jobs, identities, welfare, and medical care while waving Mexican flags and demonstrating openly to assert they have their ‘rights’. I think this is the segment of illegal Mexicans Trump was referencing when he said some of them are rapists and criminals.

The liberals and their media who think all foreigners should have the same rights as American citizens are confusing the issues, ignoring the laws of this nation, and aiding and abetting the illegals to obtain benefits to which they not entitled. Illegals are redistributing the wealth of this nation to other nations. The media and this administration is putting the rights of foreign citizens over and above the rights of its’ own citizens. Trump only said what needed to be said and what many believe. If you disagree then you are entitled to your opinion.
