2016 DEBATE WATCH: Donald Trump Slides To Seventh Place
Townhall.com ^ | July 3, 2015 | Daniel Doherty

Posted on 07/03/2015 10:02:16 AM PDT by Kaslin

Editor’s note: "2016 Debate Watch" is a running, bi-weekly series.

This week we’ve seen Jeb Bush and Donald Trump gain some momentum. Carly Fiorina, meanwhile, recently turned some heads as well, cracking the top ten for the first time ever.

If the August 6 Fox News debate were held tonight, however, only the following candidates would make the (prime-time) cut. (See the debate rules here):

(1) Jeb Bush: 15.0

(2) Scott Walker: 10.6

(3) Marco Rubio: 9.4

(4) Ben Carson: 9.4

(5) Mike Huckabee: 8.0

(6) Rand Paul: 8.0

(7) Donald Trump: 6.0

(8) Ted Cruz: 4.8

(9) Chris Christie: 3.8

(10) Rick Perry: 3.4

Editor’s note: The five polls used to calculate these averages can be found here, here, here, here, and here.

"If you noticed all the polls are by the media."

And the very last thing the media want is Trump in messing up their carefully choreographed dog and pony show.

The first debate is to be held in Cleveland at Quicken Loans Arena on August 9th. Kind of like it starts where it ends at the Convention type of thing. Only the top ten candidates in the average of five polls are included. A candidate forum is being held earlier in the day for those candidates that don’t make the cut.

In the few interviews I have seen her in, she has impressed. I’d like to see her for her ideas as much as anything.

(And pounding Hillary is OK too, LOL)

I totally agree with you that Carly holds her own on issues and opinion. I do have a feeling that she is no where near conservative enough for me on social issues, or recognizes that our broad moral and religious collapse is the fundamental cause for the continued decline of the US.

She avoids projecting much of any emphasis on such matters, but it’s still a grand plus and necessary that she can verbally dismantle Hillary Clinton.

This whole polling thing is a charade. Rather than just grab the few people who use landlines who have nothing better to do than answer a call that is clearly NOT ONE OF THEIR FRIENDS, they should do a one time per IP online poll where each candidate is allowed to write a two paragraph limited blurb about what they stand for and why they are the candidate to be President. Maybe one graph for each about how he/she feels about ten issues facing the nation. Then have people click on their top three candidates.

The way the polls are now, it’s a joke. Rand Paul and Huckabee on that stage? Jindal? Carson? While Cruz himself might not make the cut? It’s so ridiculous.

Same sex marriage is a done deal. We only kid ourselves. Marriage shouldn’t be a government decision but even so, we should focus on larger issues like the way the Supreme Court is used to legislate. The decision last week is far more dangerous as a precedent than on gay marriage itself.

What Schwarzenegger
was to California as governor, Trump would be to
America as CIC. He is a lone wolf. No thanks.

[i support Cruz but I’m becoming a Trump in the race fan]

I disagree about Arnold. He was beholden to his Kennedy Inlaws. Trump is not.

There was a huge one in San Francisco a couple years ago. An illegal fired into a neighboring car at random at a stoplight and murdered a man and his teen son.

But there are so many. Here in L.A. There are hit and runs or other traffic accidents, caused by drunk drivers who are not legally here, practically daily.

Rather than just grab the few people who use landlines

I think you’ll find most polling today uses both landlines and cell phones.

FOX News announced the following criteria to enter the debate:
•Must meet all U.S. Constitutional requirements; and
•Must announce and register a formal campaign for president; and
•Must file all necessary paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC); and
•Must have paid all necessary federal and state filing fees; and
•Must place in the top 10 of an average of the five most recent national polls, as recognized by FOX News leading up to August 4that 5 PM/ET. Such polling must be conducted by major, nationally recognized organizations that use standard methodological techniques.

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus issued the following statement in response to the above criteria:

“We support and respect the decision Fox has made which will match the greatest number of candidates we have ever had on a debate stage.”

Additional coverage and air time will be provided on Aug. 6 to those candidates who do not place in the top 10.

Arnold didn’t have to call himself a Republican
if he was beholden to the Kennedys. I don’t
buy into that conspiracy like stuff anyway.
He was a political flake which is my point
comparing him to Trump. Both Donald and Arnold
are similar to another celebridork politician named
Ventura. None of them have a political core set of
beliefs. Reagan, on the other hand, was serious about
his philosophy and the political party that most
closely matched that philosophy. Jessee, Donnie, and
Arnie were all only ego driven.

One man one woman marriage is the very foundation of civilization, and you say we need to focus on larger issues?
