Oregon Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian on Thursday ordered the owners of a former Gresham bakery to pay $135,000 in damages to a lesbian couple for refusing to make them a wedding cake.

Avakian's ruling upheld a preliminary finding earlier this year that the owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa had discriminated against the women on the basis of their sexual orientation.

From reseaching his bio on the internet, it looks like this jerk Abakian is a big mover in Dem politics in Oregon. I’ll bet he arrived at his decision before even looking at the case.

I think the Oregon law is unconstitutional. Discriminating against a legitimate American group/individuals because you don't like their politics (Nazis, Black Muslims, etal) certainly sounds unconstitutional to me. The homosexual marriage movement is also very political.

Tale it to court. Let us know how you do.

No.

You have no authority to do this per the US Constitution Amendment number one.

“”This has been a terrible ordeal for our entire family. We never imagined finding ourselves caught up in a fight for social justice,” they said. “We endured daily, hateful attacks on social media, received death threats and feared for our family’s safety, yet our goal remained steadfast. We were determined to ensure that this kind of blatant discrimination never happened to another couple, another family, another Oregonian.” “

...But now that we are heroes in the lesbian rainbow community and have a butt load of cash coming we are happy as clams.

This is the direct result of the assault on freedom of association that started with requiring private businesses to “not discriminate”. That was, and is the crack in the door that destroyed the right to associate with who you will, do business with who you will, hire who you will.

The left is very good at destroying freedom in the name of “compassion”.

Desperate people do desperate things and there are laws higher that Oregon state law. All the parties involved should reflect on alternatives to resolve this matter.

Exactly. Don't these radical homosexuals realize that what they're doing it wrong and completely unnecessary?

It just doesn't make any sense the way that these gay Nazis are persecuting this all-American couple and their business.

Insert copy and pasted Bible scriptures here:

Your reaction is the typical Conservative reaction and a prime example of why our side has lost everything with no hope of ever getting it back.

The whole notion of agencies having sole authority to levy huge and unrealistic fines upon citizens without even a trial is tyranny of the highest order. This is no better than being under authority of the king the Founding Fathers fought to win liberty from. No agency should have such powers be it federal, state, or local government. The commissioner needs to be ran out of state on a rail.

Not the point. The trend is all businesses should provide whatever customers ask for....as long as it's not "political." That's an extremely slippery slope. What will a business be allowed to turn down? Nothing?

In my area some bakeries make what are called "sh*t cakes"...cakes baked in the form of fecal matter with candy flies for decoration. If I request a bakery make me one of those kinds of cakes, can they turn me down?

Isn’t this a violation of The First Amendment regarding
freedom to practice one’s religion?

You want to explain more fully why my reaction is an example of why our side has lost everything?

There is something rotten about how an non-judiciary body can impose a fine like this.

Violation of the fourth and 14th amendment:

“[N]or shall any person . . . be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law “

“[N]or shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law “
