Montana man seeks license for second wife

HELENA, Mont. - A Montana man said Wednesday that he was inspired by last week's U.S. Supreme Court decision legalizing gay marriage to apply for a marriage license so that he can legally wed his second wife.

Nathan Collier and his wives Victoria and Christine applied at the Yellowstone County Courthouse in Billings on Tuesday in an attempt to legitimize their polygamous marriage. Montana, like all 50 states, outlaws bigamy - holding multiple marriage licenses - but Collier said he plans to sue if the application is denied.

"It's about marriage equality," Collier told The Associated Press Wednesday. "You can't have this without polygamy."

County clerk officials initially denied Collier's application, then said they would consult with the county attorney before giving him a final answer, Collier said.

Yesterday it was gender.
Today it will be numbers.
Tomorrow it will be age.

I can’t figure this polygamy thing out.

I always thought one wife was trouble enough.

Well, as they say...diversity is our strength!

We were told this would never happen during the debate on gay marriage.

I can’t figure this polygamy thing out.

Maybe it's a divide and conquer type of thing. The wives can bicker at each other and then the husband can step in and play at reconciler. I doubt that would work in real like though.

Marriage licenses for the sheep herder to marry his sheep is coming pretty darn soon! Or, the cattle rancher wishing to marry his cattle herd? Again, comin’ soon!

You may be on to something. Perhaps the simpler explanation is that they spend so much time bickering amongst themselves that they leave him alone.

I know a couple that are seriously considering polygamy. Both are successful professionals, living and working in separate cities, 400 miles apart.

They have a 9 month old toddler, and want more children. They want a “wife” to raise their children while they go do high powered professional activities. They have tried several Au-pairs, and were not satisfied.

What they intend is a “contractual relationship” with a sister wife., not a religious one, in order to establish a stable family environment for their children.

This all points to how sick our society has turned, and how religion and family values are despised by the left.

The definition of “Domestic partners” is changing, once again.

I always thought one wife was trouble enough.

Has anyone given consideration to the problems of having more than one Mother-in-law?

Excellent point.

How about more than one birthday and anniversary to remember?

I’m sure the Episcopalians will be opening up there church for the polygamist. Marriage means nothing now.

If he is a Muslim he is going to have a legitimate First Amendment case, bolstered by this decision.

That didn’t take long.

“The Supreme Court’s ruling on Friday made gay marriages legal nationwide. Chief Justice John Roberts said in his dissent that people in polygamous relationships could make the same legal argument that not having the opportunity to marry disrespects and subordinates them.

Collier, 46, said that dissent inspired him. He owns a refrigeration business in Billings and married Victoria, 40, in 2000. He and his second wife, Christine, had a religious wedding ceremony in 2007 but did not sign a marriage license to avoid bigamy charges, he said.”

Wonderful.......
