Oak Lawn post commander tells Tea Party group, "It ain't what we're about," after learning content of "educational seminar."
Johnson-Phelps VFW Post 5220 in Oak Lawn, IL.
The Johnson-Phelps VFW Post has canceled an event on the dangers of Islam in America that was being hosted by the Southwest Chicago and Suburban Tea Party.
The Johnson-Phelps VFW Post, which rents its facilities and rooms to various political groups, including Democrats and Republicans, clubs, community organizations, and veterans groups, said in a statement that it did not know what the event was about when the Tea Party group rented the space.
A notice posted by the Tea Party group on Oak Lawn Patch advertised the event as an educational seminar called Dangers of Islam in America. After the cancellation, the article was removed from Patch.
The Southwest Chicago and Suburban Tea Party release mentioned the rise of Islam around the world and the increasing number of followers in the United States, demonstrated by attacks against us in Garland TX and Boston MA.
Attendees were encouraged to come and educate yourself and your family as we reside in a community surrounded by Muslim mosques and you really need to learn what takes place in the mosque.
After this seminar, I am sure you will realize the reality that Islam is not the religion of peace Islam is the religion of war, violence, murder, genocide, slavery and abuse of women & children.
The seminar was slated for July 6 at the VFW post in Oak Lawn. Admission was $4 to cover the cost of hall rental and included snacks and water. Organizers also noted the VFW posts ample parking and cash bar. The speaker giving the seminar is a local man noted for teaching conceal-carry classes.
Im going to get a conceal-carry license. The more I know about these Muslims the more it scares me. I might be on their hit list.
~ Tea Party President Robbie Katherine
Once staff at the Oak Lawn VFW post realized what it was about, they pulled the plug.
We dont support what theyre going to be talking about, Post Commander Richard Bukowski said. Thats the reason why we canceled it. We dont support their views. It aint what were about.
A staff member, who said she did not have permission to speak on behalf of the post, said Johnson-Phelps has hosted the Southwest Chicago and Suburban Tea Party organization before but the meetings were usually only attended by dozen or so people.
When the Tea Party groups president and founder, Robbie Katherine, dropped a flier off at the post on Monday, the staff member commented that she didnt like the tone.
After notifying the post commander, Johnson-Phelps leadership immediately decided to cancel the event and give the Tea Party back its deposit.
Katherine said she was counting on a couple hundred people coming to the event. She claims she just wanted to inform the public and thought she was doing a good thing.
The Muslims were able to shut me up again and thats what they do, shut up Christians, Katherine said. I dont know about the ones in our community. If theyre good people or think like these radicals.
A few readers commented on the press release posted on Patch late Monday evening, calling Katherine a hater. She says plans to host the seminar somewhere else, but next time wont advertise it to the public.
Im going to get a conceal-carry license, the Tea Party president said. The more I know about these Muslims the more it scares me. I might be on their hit list.
This says it all.
I quit the VFW after they endorsed Barbra Boxer for Senate. Useless political organization.
Censored by, of all people, Veterans of Foreign Wars. It’s obvious that Muslims have most of America by the ying-yang. Free speech, RIP.
Some folks want to think of Islam as just another religion. It isn’t.
That one is very dangerous. It doesn’t want to co-exist with any other ideology.
They have opened themselves up to a great big law suite as they would certainly be sued if they had cancelled a gay wedding service. 14th amendment and all.
And there you have it, Mr. Bukowski.
I have been approached many times in an effort to get me to join this organization.
I am a veteran of two foreign wars and I'm definitely eligible, but the attitude displayed by this butt head of a "commander" is one of several that tells me to stay the hell away from them.
Send me some more free address labels, though, if you please.
American Legion, you too.
It’s possible to conduct a seminar on Islam, and produce fliers for such, without giving the impression that you are organizing a lynch mob for Muslims.
The same thing happened to our Tea Party.
The School Board took the side of CAIR and the local NAACP and threw us out of the High School hours before our “Truth About Islam” event was supposed to take place, violating the contract we had with them.
We sued the School District for violating our First Amendment Rights and won!

Should’ve promoted it as “Dangers of Islam, followed by Gay Wedding Ceremony” - no way anybody could shut it down then.
Fixed it.
“It ain’t what we’re about,” —
Glug, glug, glug
Cool!
Afraid of getting blown up.
So many bizarre things have happened in the last week that nothing is a shock anymore. Even the VFW folding up the flag ( not even the Confederate one) is not that unusual now.
The Devil certainly has been on a roll.
They should have asked them to bake a cake for the talk.
That’s the only explanation I can think of.
Someone should ask this post commander how many muslim members he has.
LOL.
master of ceremonies:Chelsey Manning.
Way back, they didn’t consider NAM a war.
